Driving with a UK License

Hi

This will be my first time tarvelling to Disney from UK.

We will be driving to Miami and back then on to Disney - hoorah!

I've heard that I need something in addition to a UK license, like an extra form ???

Any ideas ???

Do not let any car club try to sell you an International Drvier's Licence -- they simply aren't required. The only purpose of such a piece of paper is to translate the necessary information into the language of your destination country. The last time I check, Americans speak something very similar to English. As far as I understand, since you are licenced to drive in the UK you are qualified to drive in the USA. Just stick to the right hand side of the road and enjoy your trip!

And I'd been warned about the international licenses but I heard this thing on the TV about the extra form and it worried me a little.

Perhaps what you heard might be in regard to photo licenses? You do need an official photo ID to rent a car in the US, and older UK licenses didn't have a photo. However, as you do have your passport (having just entered the country, after all) that can take care of the photo aspect of the driver's license requirement.

BTW, if your license does not have a photo yet, you should carry your passport at any time that you might wish to buy an alcoholic beverage; without a photo ID that shows your age, you will not be served.

I have a photo license anyway and have been told to carry the paper version aswell.

But will carry passport to be on the safe side.

crim--you may also try posting this over on the UK board. I know there are DISers there who have rented cars and will be able to give you the skinny (American-speak for the real info )

I drove in England with my Virginia drivers licence.

The only issue I ever had was with the insurance (I had to
buy the insurance from the rental agency since neither my policy nor my company'd (it was business) met the UK requirement). I would check directly with the rental company about this.

It is also true you will need to have a photo ID.
