Anyone else driving down to WDW on Saturday? I've been watching the weather and it looks like it will be raining the entire way (from Raleigh, NC). We've decided to make a last minute change of plans and are actually leaving tomorrow around mid-day and stopping in Savannah for tomorrow night. That way we won't have as far to drive in the rain on Saturday. Anyone else bothered about driving in the rain on I-95? Or are we just being silly old people :).

Also, has anyone ever stayed at the Hampton Inn - Lake Buena Vista? We're staying there Saturday night before checking in at AKV-Jambo Sunday. I'm just wondering how that Hampton Inn is.

We are at BWV now and the staff here told us that WDW is expecting 2 to 3 inches of rain on Saturday.

:) Bill

We drove home last July & we had rain from Daytona all the way to NC :scared1: It was coming down so hard you couldn't even see the lines in the road. We stopped about 2-3 exits into NC for the night cause hubby was getting tired & we had only driven about 8 hrs. Never, again will I do that.
We leave in 11 days for Kidani I'm soo excited :dance3:
Have a safe drive & have fun

Hello WolfpackFan,
We are also from North Carolina (Coastal) and we will be driving to Florida on Friday. We plan to stop over in Orange Park for a couple of nights and then on to Disney on Sunday morning!

To answer your question about the Hampton Inn - If it is the Hampton Inn on Palm Parkway we have stayed there several times prior to checking in at Disney and have always found it to be a very clean, safe and nice hotel to stay at! Also our Daughter and her family who live in Raleigh stayed at that same Hampton just a little over a week ago before they checked in to their Disney Hotel and they were very pleased!

Safe Travels,

Doug / datgrt@fw

I'm flying in on Saturday. We're connecting in Atlanta, I am concerned about possible flight delays. From the forecasts I read, it's supposed the rain is supposed to be Friday into Saturday morning. We don't land until 12:30pm (hopefully!).

On our recent trip, we drove from Newark Delaware to Jacksonville in rain that never let up. It sucked. Even worse, however, was driving the leg from Wilson, NC to Newark last Saturday. The traffic was SO BAD. Thank HEAVENS it wasn't raining that day! (We're 'silly old people' too - but seriously, why kill ourselves pushing to exhaustion?)

Leaving about 5 am Friday from RI so will be in the rain Saturday also. Are bringing the car down to Fl house and then will fly home on the 12th and back to FL and WDW on the 27th.

I think you have the right idea about leaving early and driving part of the way. I hate I95 in the sunshine. The last trip to WDW we drove from Orlando to Columbia SC in heavy rain and severe thunderstorms. I was a wreck by the time we to our home just North of Charlotte NC. We have stayed at the hampton you are speaking of before we joined DVC and it was nice, clean and quiet. Hopefully you will not have too bad of weather on Saturday. They are calling for a chance of snow flurries here.We are going in January and the weather being bad is our primary concern. That time of year ice would be our luck:confused3.

We are just sitting here agonizing over the weather forecast and what to do about driving down on Saturday. Trying to talk DH into leaving Friday afternoon and getting at least to south GA so we don't have so far to go in the miserable weather on Sat.

That was exactly our thoughts. I hate driving I-95 in the best of weather much less in the rain. I thought about driving further tomorrow and trying to make it to Jacksonville, but we couldn't take our kitten to stay with our son for next week until around noon (he works late and basically sleeps till noon every day). So we figured we'd just drive to Savannah. I found a very reasonable Hampton Inn off I-95. Hope to get there around 5:00 and then maybe go down by the river front area for dinner.

We drive from Pa once or twice a year to Disney. It depends on what time of year it is as to how busy I-95 is. In Oct. DH and I went to Disney and for the whole trip we were wondering where the traffic was. It was wonderful. I too hate to drive in rain and snow. SO far we have been lucky up here in Pa, no snow yet:worship::yay: We have pulled over many times to wait out some wicked thunderstorms on I 95.

Traffic is terrible on I-81 especially in Pa and Va. I live in Pa and the roads are bad. We try to leave at around 4 in the afternoon to get a head start and stay in Va, then the next day we usually get to Kingsland, Ga. This year we are leaving Dec 30 so I am praying for no snow. That really slows you down. One year for about 100 miles we were in a terrible snowstorm, but had no choice but to leave when we did, the next monring it was ever worst.

Good luck have a safe trip. We miss going to NC, our son was at Duke Law for 3 years. We loved the area.

Has anyone checked the weather next week. Every day except Sunday is showing a 30-40% chance of rain. I am so disappointed. We've already had one trip to WDW this year ruined by rain (the famous non-hurricane of May). I hate to start a trip on a bad note, but I sure am not looking forward to sloshing around WDW next week in the rain.

PS - Regardless we're heading out in about four hours heading south.

:grouphug: We were there in May, too, and even had rain on Castaway Cay!!!! Be careful driving. My DH just called from Harlingen TX, and is flying home through Houston. Houston is expecting SNOW today, not good news for travel. I wonder how much de-icing equipment they have?

Still, it's about the DGC, family and the holidays...have a safe and wonderful trip!!!

You don't have to be old to hate I 95 traffic. We come back December 31 from the outer Banks every year and hit miles of stop & go traffic on the NJ turnpike, which has to be one of the most conjested roads in America.

Another Savannahian here leaving on Saturday to TENT camp at Ft Wilderness. Sounds like we're gonna get wet! We'll have our ponchos handy!

I've been in the Hampton Inn out in Pooler. Very nice place. Haven't stayed there though.

We were in WDW last May also, but, we didn't let it stop us. Again, we had our ponchos. We aren't too concerned over the rain...just the cold.

By the way, plan on either:

Driving THROUGH Brunswick on US17 or waiting a long time to go down I-95 at Brunswick.

They are really tearing up the road in Glynn County.
