Did you want to be close to downtown Atlanta for sightseeing? If not, you might want to look at the area around Stone Mountain to the east.

I have stayed at the Hyatt Place near the airport. No charges for parking, free breakfast and you won't face traffic in the morning when you head south. I have gotten in for $40 on priceline. Check biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com

If you want to stay in Atlanta, do Priceline booking for a higher star hotel near the airport. We had a wonderful deal for like $65 once on a Westin and it was amazing! Loved it!!

If you are talking about before or after Atlanta along I-75, I like the Locust Grove area. That might be a little further south of Atlanta than you want to go before stopping for a night though. There actually aren't too many towns I'd recommend along the way in the GA area. If you take the bypass around I-75 when you get to the Macon area, I think the exits along the bypass are pretty nice. As someone who lives in the Atlanta area, let me give you some areas that are nice but not too expensive. If you are going 75 South from Tennessee you will pass right by Acworth, Kennesaw & Marietta. All of those locations are nice. Just get something near the interstate for convenience. You can also look into the Buckhead area but that will get pricey. Have a fun trip!!
