I was talking over a future trip with my best friend and was saying that we should drive to cut down on the cost. When i was little my family would drive down every time so driving wouldnt bother me and used to road trips as well.We would leave from Wilmington DE and drive several hours then stop for the night and finish in the morn and hopefully get to the world at a decent hour the next day.So if u have drivin from my area DE/pa/NJ how far did u drive before stopping and what state did u stop for the nite? How long did it take u the next day to get to the world?

When we drove from the Baltimore area in November, it took 16 hr of driving time (including short stops for gas and to eat- not including stopping overnight). We did stop overnight somewhere in South Carolina. You just want to make sure you time your drive down 95 so that you're not in the Baltimore/Washington/Northern Virginia areas at rush hour. It's no fun! We're having that dilmena in choosing our time to leave next Friday when we drive to Williamsburg.

Driving to Orlando wasn't hard at all. Our boys, then 6 and 11, were well behaved and handled it well. Stopping overnight helped us. We drove about 11 hr the first day and then the 2nd day was a piece of cake. We looked at a map ahead of time and figured if we averaged 55 mph (that's including stopping), where we would be after "x" number of hours. Then, we used the I-95 guide to figure out what hotels were along what exits.

We're driving from slightly northwest of Baltimore down to FL next month. Since we have 2 young children, and I'll be in my 5th month of pregnancy we're only driving 5 to 6 hour segments(not including stops) before stopping each night.

I think the amount of hours you drive really depends on who's driving and who's along. Young children usually don't do well in the car for long stretches of time.

TinkerValkyrie - I live about 15 min. northwest of you! Of course, the Labor and Delivery nurse in me needs to remind you that you also need to stop approximately every 2 hrs to stretch your legs. And, don't forget to DRINK, DRINK, and DRINK when you're in Florida.

I wish you all to have great trips. Driving down is not the end of the world as some people make it out to be. We had a great time. Of course, I much preferred flying when we went down in July for a week, but, it's not often you can get a deal of $34 each way on Southwest.

We pass through Delaware on our way from NYC. It takes us 18 hrs non stop. When we sleep over we usually do so in Georgia, near Savannah.

We drive from NY (Long Island) and go right thru the night. We make it there in roughly 18 hours.
