We drive at Disney--almost everywhere and it works well for us.

Except last year for dinner at the Grand Floridian where the parking lot is across the street and the gates would NOT go up for us so we could go into the lot and it took about 20 min. to get us in. Crazy! :)

Anyway, is there anything I need to know about driving to the Poly? ;) We have Ohana and Kona reservations this time.

TIA!

Only that if you plan to leave the car at the resort and go to the park, you may be given a 3 hour parking pass.

Every time we drive to Poly there has always been someone at the gate to let you thru, (just need your ID) and we have driven there between Ohana, Kona and Captain Cooks probably 3-4 imes per trip. The last 2 years we went they didn't hand out the 3 hr parking maybe because it was a slower time of the year but in the past we had gotten that 3 hr pass, I'm sure during the summer months and holidays they hand out the pass so you wonldn't have time to jump on the mono and go to a park. Last year after Ohana we went to the pool bar had a drink and watched Wishes across the Bay and there was also a Lighted Water Parade.

Great! It sounds like an easy one like all the others (except GF!).

GF has a person at the gate in front of the GF, but then they sent us out and across the street to park and there are no people to help. And we get to do it again this year since we're going back to the GF for dinner one night. :cool1: :rotfl:

My husband prefers to drive most everywhere too when we are in the world! We have been to the Poly for meals several times and never been given the 3 hour parking pass, have left our call all day and went to the MK. Every time we have driven to the GF we have had the 3 hour parking pass and I totally agree...parking there is a PAIN! We have now vowed that if we are headed to the GF we will just take Disney transportation. Our kids walk enough during the week, and that walk to the car is just plain boring and ridiculous!

I prefer to also drive most everywhere except to the MK, you have to park in a massive lot and then still take the momorail, the resort bus get you very close to the main enterance. Everywhere else is great to drive no crowded bus, I love that AAA parking pass.

I completely agree with PP-if you are going to eat at GF park at the TTC. Self parking at GF is horrible. Another choice is to valet it. Costs a little extra but you will be right there at the entrance. We've had to do this when we are running late.

As to Poly, that is the only resort we have ever been made to feel like we are doing something sneaky. It's the only place a guard has asked us to drive away slowly while they write down our license #. Sometimes they even check our name out on a reservation list. We have also never been given a 3 hour pass. We probably park there 3-4 times each trip. Dining at Kona, Capt. Cooks, watching fireworks from the beach, etc. We are typically there in Sept.

We also drive everywhere at WDW. Works well for us too!;)

Poly is one of the better resorts to drive to. You can generally get a spot very close to the grand ceremonial House (main bldg). The only problem is that they give you a parking pass for a few hours, so you can't go directly on to the park afterwards. Not sure if they actually check it or not, but I've never chanced it.:cutie:

We went to GF Cafe for breakfast last May and used their valet parking...well worth the extra money, tho I can't remember exactly how much...I think like $10 plus a tip. I'd imagine the Poly has the same services available.
