Has anyone ever driven to the port? We're thinking of driving down from NC and then heading over to WDW for a few days after the cruise. I assume the lot is safe. Does it ever get full?
my family and i have driven to port and its pretty safe there. we havent had any problems leaving our car in the port while we are on our cruise. And it usually doesnt get full at all, so need to worry.
We live in Winston-Salem, NC and we normally drive down. We have never left our car at the port. We normally stay at the Radisson at the Port, but I feel comfortable leaving it at the resort or at the port.
One caution is that people have reported finding ants in their cars upon their return so make sure you leave no food or crumbs in the car, and don't park near any trees.
I also live in NC (near Charlotte). I've cruised 6 times with DCL, 5 out of P.C. I always drive. It is such an easy drive!! I go down a day ahead so that I'm not tired when getting on the ship. I've always parked my car in the lot. It is a gated lot so it is secure. I've never found any bugs, but I don't leave any food in the car either. It's only about a 7 1/2 to 8 hour drive from the Charlotte area....not bad at all.
We've driven to the port several times. Parking at the port is $10 per day. There is a guard and the lot is fenced. There seems to be plenty of parking and we are always near the front. As above, don't leave any open food containers in your car.
The port is about 45 minutes from MCO (Orlando airport) and it is a few dollars in tolls to get there from the airport.
We plan to arrive at least the night before if we are driving--that way, I know we are there! We get a Priceline room for about $30 either in the airport area or near the port if it is just for the night and we are not doing WDW first. Parking at the Radisson is free, and you do not have to book the "cruise package" to park or ride the shuttle to the port. This lot was not as well secured as the one at the port. It is available to guests staying at the Radisson and 2 other "sister hotels."
We drove and opted to leave the car at the port instead of the Radisson for safety reasons. The port is secured. The Radisson was just a field in front of the property. Tha combined with not having to deal with the shuttles made the $10 a day a fine price to pay. We didn't have any bugs and with 3 kids I'm sure there were a lot of prime pickins on that mini van floor!

we drive down from louisville ky every year and love it. we have parked both at the port and the radisson and never had a problem. we always like to goto WDW before we cruise to get the blood pumping lol. ive never seen the DCL port parking full that i know of.
We drive down from Eastern NC and have never had a problem with the lot either. If it did get full, there is the lot across the street for the Wonder & there were lots of spots there when we looked over from deck 9.
Have driven to all four DCL cruises. The nice thing about having your car is the flexibility to make a Wal Mart or Publix run before heading to the Port if there is something you forgot, or if changes since you packed (developed a sniffle, want medicine, or sheesh, it wasn't supposed to be this cold, I guess I do need a sweatshirt--that was me in january for the sweatshirt--)mean you need some quick shopping. Also makes for a good feeling on the start of the day home to get right out to the car and go. The lots are easy, secure, convenient.
If you are driving down, get into town early enough the night before to have dinner at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, a few exits north on 95 from the exit onto 528 to take you to the Port. Great seafood and atmosphere,
So has anyone every parked at the port with a pop-up camper? We're thinking of driving down and camping at FW before our cruise. Obviously we will have had food in our camper, but don't plan on having any in there during the cruise. Anyone try the borax or hot pepper sauce around the tires?
