Driving to Orlando - hotel question

Random question, but thought this would be as good a place as any to ask.

We're starting our drive to Disney on 11/9 and planning to stop over in Tallahassee for a night. I was stunned by the lack of hotel availability. Half the places seem to be completely booked and the remaining ones are super expensive, like $250+ for a Hampton Inn.

I thought maybe it was a football game weekend, but Florida State plays out of town on 11/10. I looked around online for other major events but couldn't find anything.

Anyone know what would be driving the lack of room availability that weekend?

A quick Google search and I hit Four Point by Sheridan through Expedia 11/9 - 11/10 $174 per

Best Western $118 through booking.com

Is that a Friday or Saturday night? If so Florida State May be playing at home causing the lack of availability

Thanks - I was looking through the Chase rewards portal to use some points, so probably missed a few deals floating out there.

It's been like this long enough I'm sure we'll have to bite the bullet and either pay up or alter plans. Just thought the collective wisdom might know something around the why.

A quick search on TripAdvisor is turning up motels starting as low as $47 for a no name motel to reasonable budget chains like Microtel and Baymont for $68-69 to Quality Inn for $90 and on up from there.

I think you were just looking in the wrong place. The Chase portal might only access a select group of rooms. Broaden your search and it looks like there are loads of choices to fit any budget.
