Driving to Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge?

Just wondered if its possible to drive to both of these from ASM? Everywhere mentions boats! How long would it take and what is the parking like? We have booked Trails End and Whispering Canyon.

Yes. They are the same distance as MK. There are two routes - you can either follow signs for MK and enter through the right hand side of the MK car park drive-in gates, then follow signs for MK Resort Hotels; or instead of heading for MK follow signs for Port Orleans, go past Port Orleans and at the end of the road turn left - this will lead you in to the MK Resort area, past FW, without having to drive through the MK car park gates. It will take 15-20 mins from ASM and parking should be fine.

You can park at Wilderness Lodge and get a 3 hour permit for your meal. You will need to allow extra time at Fort Wilderness as you have to park and then catch an internal bus to the main camp area.

I just wondered if anyone knew how often the internal buses run in Fort Wilderness?

The internal buses run all the time, if I remember correctly there are three bus routes from the main gate down to the Settlement going slightly different routes. The whole journey only takes 10 minutes or so, so with three buses you should only have to wait for 10 minutes at most. We ate at trails end last year - our last meal in WDW - and it is the best value for money buffet anywhere on site.

Hi there,

I eat at Trails End a few weeks ago and it was good food at a good price, we had the same dilema and knowing the WL (we own a DVC ownership there) and FW very well, we did this.

We got the resort bus from Old Key West to MK transfered to the resort launch which stopped at the Wilderness Lodge first then Fort Wilderness. From the boat dock at MK it took 15 mins. The Trails End is a short walk from the boat dock and I would recommend to arrive early as I enjoyed just walking around the top part of the FW resort.

To access the Whispering Cannoyn you could do the above or take a resort bus from ASM to MK then switch to a WL bus. We have eat at WC many times again it's great, remember to ask for ketchup, they have lots of it but do ask. The 2 best servers were Jethro & Kate both have been at the restaurant some 20 years since it opened.
