My daughter has a gymnastics meet in Vegas in Jan, and I was wondering if anybody has made this drive?? There will only be the three of us - me and my two daughters and I'm a little concerned with driving, I'm use to the country bumkin driving LOL..

Also I won't know what day her meet will be till like a couple of weeks before, So I can't book a room untill I know when we can go, Do the Disney Hotels sell out in Jan??

Thanks for your help :goodvibes

The Disney hotels rarely sell out. Unless it's a holiday. Also consider the hotels across the street on Harbor Drive. They can be much closer and much cheaper.

I've driven to LV many times. It takes 3 hours and don't let your car go to empty because there are some gaps between gas stations.

BUT If you are making the drive it can be really slow, leaving LA on Friday, leaving LA during rush hour. Driving from LV to LA on Sunday. Seriously a crawling traffic jam when you are in the middle of the dessert.

First of all GO SOX!!! I am a MASS native relocated to Las Vegas :sad2:

I seriously would allow 4+ hours for this drive. I have driven it at night and during the day. I am not a good night driver, so I prefer the daylight hours!

If you fill up in Las Vegas (and your car gets decent gas mileage) you'll have plenty to get to Disneyland! I would recommend stopping in Barstow for a short break. Its about half way.

I-15 South
210 West
57 South

Good luck! There are spaces where there is NOTHING to look at but desert.
But, then there is the area where it is like driving from Worcester to Boston.

Have FUN!

We just stopped in Las Vegas on our way to DL last week. The drive from Las Vegas takes around 4 hours and it really easy. You are on I-15 most of the way and we didn't encounter any major traffic once we got into CA, though we were arriving mid-day. If you can, I would avoid arriving in CA during rush hour.

Follow Ski's advice! Don't drive from LV to SoCal on a Sunday - especially in the afternoon or evening!

It's a easy drive! freeway all the way... but people really go FAST on that road! Speed limit??? What speed limit!:lmao::lmao::lmao:
No worries, you can do it, just take the advice of Hydor and Skiingfast......... don't go on the popular times!
Do stop at Barstow.. for food and coffee.

We just made this trip last weekend (and have done it before many times too). It's an easy drive- right about 4.5 hours. We usually stop at the McDonald's in Barstow- not the first one you go to, go past that to the one on Lenwood and they have a playplace for the kids to burn off energy. Actually this last time on the way down we stopped at Peggy Sue's diner and that was kinda cool. The food was okay and out back they have a little "diner-saur" park with some dinosaur statues and a pond with ducks.

we do it often , my record from Vegas to DL is 3 hours , seems like coming home always is longer. maybe its the misery of returning to Vegas. It is a dull drive , but safe. Tons funner than Las Vegas to Phoenix.......man thats boring.

3 hours!!! Wow, how fast are you guys driving? If we make it in 4 hours that is good and I have to admit we are going above the speed limit.

260 miles / 3hours = 87mph.

about 80 sometimes faster sometimes slower

Thank you everybody, I feel so much better about the drive. When my oldest suggested it at first I was well maybe but then I google mapped it and seen thats its not far from LA thats what freaked me out. And I have driven on the GW (george washington bridge -New York City) in rush hour :scared1: so I should be fine..

thanks again

Isn't the McDonalds in Barstow in old train cars? It was when I was a kid...

What about the reverse route on a Sunday? I'll be doing that in March.

The thing is most of LV visitors are from LA.

So on Friday around noon people start leaving work to go to LV. On Sunday from late morning they go back to LA.

To beat this you need to leave early.

I'm going to LV from LA on Sunday. Sounds like I'll be going against traffic.
