Driving to Disney

My husband and I are from Ontario and will be driving down together for the first time this year. This thread as been great.

Although I have driven down many times before with my parents. I just never paid attention to how we got there. >.< Being a kid all I was worried about was seeing Mickey Mouse.

Does anyone have any good tips for car games or safe things to do in a car for the trip?

Do you make a stop at a hotel to sleep at all? I'm just wondering because DH and I have talked about driving before and one of the things that always put me off was having to stop somewhere and waste hours sleeping at a hotel. I guess I just wanna know if it can be done without stopping for sleep

we have driven once where we left after dinner and drove through right to florida. We stopped a few hours away from orlando, but we did drive straight through to florida. So yes it can be done. I dont drive on the highways so my husband did all the driving, so if both people drive i think that is ideal so people can get some sleep, i dont think we would do that again. we like to drive a lot on the first day and we are so tired after it that we go to bed early, get up and are in orlando by lunch. It is quite the drive and i have known some people before who have done it in one shot. At the time it was my husband myself and a 8 and 9 year old. They were good sleeping in the car. I would not do it now as i have a 6 year old who gets antsy.

We bring a portable dvd player and a nintendo ds for the little one and for us, well we just like to sit and talk. I love the I-75 book because you can follow along with it. That kept me entertained the whole way...I know some people like to play games about cars they see, license plates etc. But i am a nervous driver and like to watch the road.. :)(while My husband is driving)

I get nervous on the road as well. That's why this is going to be an interesting trip. I think I will just talk, watch the road and maybe read my Kobo for most of the trip. We'd like to bring a portable DVD player, but the lighter in our car has -never- worked. So we have no power source for it. :headache:

i brought a laptop for myself but never used it once. We talked the whole way there and back. Its the excitement of it and talking about things we are going to do, life in general. It is never boring for us. We listened to music.. I think it helped my husband with driving too and him not getting bored with driving so much.
I am sure you are going to have a fantastic trip. i am super nervous but rather enjoy this drive..

Thank you. I know we'll have a good time. any car trip even if I am a bit nervous is great with my hubby. Gives us time to actually see one another and spend time together. Good idea btw. We are so excited. Love all things Disney and plan on trying to make at least one sort of Disney type trip per year if we can manage it. I am already blogging, planning and looking up everything I can. :cloud9:

We have driven without sleeping over before (twice) and it is doable, but we needed a day to recover afterwards both times. Of course we had children with us both times, it might be less tiring with just the two of you - less stopping. Good Luck and have fun!

This August, we're driving I79/77 route down to Miami, then taking the I75 route back to Toronto.:)

We are headed down the end of August as well most likely the same route this will be our 3rd drive down, with a family of 6 flying is just not an option. We leave after dinner and drive straight through to Florida, we have taken a hotel in Jacksonville and not at all. This time our goal is to stay around the Daytona area as DH likes to visit the the beach at least once and then check in by noon on our arrival date!!

Getting the "I75" book for the first time this trip though!!!
