We will be driving down to Disney from Chicago in June. We are planning to stop overnight in Macon on the way down but are not sure where to stop on the way home. Has anyone done this drive before and have a recommendation? We have 3 kids ages 2-8. We aren't sure if we should stop for 1 night or 2 nights coming home.

Nashville would be about 10 hrs from Orlando. Chattanooga would be 8 hrs. Definitely want to be north of Atlanta on the first day.

On the way back, I would sleep in before leaving Orlando so you can drive through Atlanta as late in the evening as possible. Stop for the night as far north of the city as possible.

I live in Atlanta, but originally from Chicago. I think you might want to be North of Atlanta as the traffic through the city can be maddening at times. Chattanooga is not a bad option as well as Nashville.

We drive all the time from Chicago. We leave about 3 am to get thru Atlanta and usually stop around Macon. Be sure you have a reservation. Things get busy thst time of year and hotels fill up. If you don’t leave early enough and are going to get to Atlanta around rush hour, stay north. It’s a horror trying to get through Atlanta anytime from 4 to 6 and that’s not even the city itself. It has taken us 3 hours to get to Macon from Atlanta before at the wrong time.

for coming back, we again leave super early and usually end up around Nashville. Although if my husband is feeling good and our daughter is sleeping most of the way, we have driven all the way through.

If you can make it to Louisville on your way home then you will only have about 5 more hours to drive the next day. :)
