Driving to ADR....right board?

I have a question about driving. We will be staying at Pop Century but I am thinking about getting a car specifially to get to dinners. We spent so much time traveling to our ADR's last year, i thought if i could get a car that would help.

So if we have dinner at the Poly or yachtclub or anywhere else, are we allowed to park at the hotel? And how strict are they with leaving the car while we go to the park? Since we are doing dinner it won't be left in the lot all day, but will we have to eat, drop everyone off at the park, bring the car back to pop and then someone hops a bus back??

The dinners in the parks are ok, but i am specifically looking at the poly night and the yachtsmen night (that walk through epcot was a killer last time...we were dripping as we tried to race to our adr after waiting forever for a bus...probably should have looked at the mgm boat?)

Anyway those are the only 2...which now makes me think its not worth a car...maybe a cab? But we have 6 and a toddler so maybe 2 cabs??????? But one is sunday and one is monday, so maybe just a 3 day car rental would work...

Yes, you can park at the resort where you are having lunch or dinner. At most of the resorts, you will get a three hour parking pass.

NO, you cannot leave the car there while you go to a park unless you use valet parking where available. That being said, others will tell you that it is okay. However, at the Polynesian and at the Contemporary, we have actually seen cars being towed away.

The hotel will usually give you a 3 hour parking pass for a dinner reservation so you won't be able to leave the car there for park time after dinner.

If you call a cab they will be able to send a van so you can all travel together. It will be the same cost weather you are 6 people in a van or 2 people in a car and will probably run you about $20.00.

Personally, I think the risk is far greater leaving the car in a resort lot to visit a park during the day. If you do it at night, there presumption is far greater that you are enjoying resort amenities, such a lounge or Jellyrolls (at the Boardwalk) rather than going back to a park. They want people to shop/eat/drink in the resorts at night, so its unlikely they would tow for a nighttime visit. Also - what if you had too much to drink and had to leave the car there and take a cab? How would Disney know that you were at a park in the evening rather than one of these other scenarios?

That said, valet is probably the best option - you don't have to worry about your car while you are having fun. It is free to DVC holders and AP holders.
