Driving - through or around Richmond?

We leave tomorrow from MA to WDW. Triptik seems clear, but is taking us through Richmond, and not around the city. I seem to remember from a drive many years ago that there was a loop around so we could avoid the city. Can someone tell me what that route is and if it would be a good idea to get off 95 for that part of the trip. Thanks.

I-295, if is almost automatic to go in it.

We've done both ways. It somewhat depends on what time of day you are driving through. I'm pretty accustom to driving in traffic and didn't find Richmond during mid-day to be a problem. I would think that Friday's traffic would be fairly light.

Having said that, we found the I-295 route very, very easy. Its longer but I don't know just how much longer time-wise.

There will be no traffic on 295, that's the way to go. Just be careful of speed traps!
