Driving question

It's a big accomplishment for you: be proud, be safe, don't be timid ( not too slow ) but don't be aggressive either. Please remember though that when you called a car a weapon, any motor vehicle can be one too.

Know what's ahead of you, all around you, at all times, be careful. Good Luck.

Yes, good for you OP!

And some great advice from this PP. I might add that you should double check the specific rules/laws in the places you are driving - as can be seen from this thread, the rules can really differ!

Thank you for the info

:offtopic: I hate the stereotype of those who don't have a drivers license it was not just my vision that stopped me from getting my license it was my anxiety as well, I mean not only are you respons for you but others as well

A car is just like a weapon

If you stopped driving a car because of your vision and anxiety why on earth do you think it's okay to drive a golf cart? You still have these issues right? Well a golf cart can be just as dangerous to you or someone else.

Geesh - The dangers of drivers with anxiety issues never crossed my mind! I would think if it's that crippling of a problem you (general you) would play it safe and not drive and not risk your safety or the safety of other drivers.

This thread has really been an eye opener - and not in a good way. :/

Yes Laura66 it's been an eye opening thread for sure, for many reasons .

For the golf carts though, the problem is anyone over age 14 here can drive these things and no testing, DL, registration, insurance or anything else is required. You can't really stop anyone from driving them unless there's an accident I would imagine. Makes no sense does it ?

Right now I am extremely glad for where I live, on a daily basis in my neighborhood I only share the road with horses, tractors, and other cars or pickups. My surrounding towns though those golf carts are everywhere :scared: Thank God after sunset they aren't allowed in these areas ( not sure how it is where Tink is ) at least we can see them.

It's not a stereotype. If you are not well enough to test, pass and obtain a driver's license then you are not well enough to drive ANYTHING on the road. A person with anxiety and poor vision driving a golf cart can still be the cause of a bad accident.

As Sir Duff provided up thread: CNIB - Definition of Legal Blindness

In Canada a visual acuity worse than 20/50 disqualifies people from obtaining a driver's license OR restricts their driving to daytime only, as do some visual field deficits.

Again, I am a Licensed Driver with a Legally Blind sight impairment.
The Ministry along with my Eye Surgeon decides my ability to drive, not me.

In reading some of this thread I am led to believe that Drivers here do not drive according at times to their confidence/comfort zones.

As a driver with sight impairment, I do not drive in large cities, on major highways, or during rush hour. Albiet, I am licensed without restriction to do so.

Drive safely everyone whom is "Licensed" to do so.

What stereotype? If I've heard someone doesn't have a DL, I'd assume they live somewhere they don't need one.

A golf cart can turn into a weapon also.
I know that and I treat it as such

I have coreectec must of my problems for the most part however even if I were

It's not a stereotype. If you are not well enough to test, pass and obtain a driver's license then you are not well enough to drive ANYTHING on the road. A person with anxiety and poor vision driving a golf cart can still be the cause of a bad accident.

That is why I practiced not only to pasted driving but to master the route

You can either see well enough to drive or you can't. If you are restricting yourself from the above activities then I don't want you on the road beside me either, even if it just locally to get my groceries.

I suffered anxiety following a car accident, for two years! Guess what I did not drive for those two years. It was very hard, especially since there was no public transportation in my little town. Taxis, rides, whatever I had to do even though it was an inconvenience because I could never have lived with myself if I had been the cause of any accident!

Even if your doctor clears you to drive, what happened to personal responsibility? You are clearly limiting yourself because you know you are not up to snuff. :confused3 Why wait for an accident before you pull yourself off the road?
