Driving question

i would say i drove aggressively before I had children who ride in the car and yes I can be aggressive...but I've mellowed either with parenthood or ah um...old age

I thought you don't drive. I remember threads you started because you were frustrated with the people who drove you places!

Are we talking about the golf cart type thing you claimed to drive?

No need for :confused3 : One definition of drive is vehicle.
One definition of vehicle is any form of conveyance. One definition of conveyance is transport.

Enjoy driving, and continue to Drive safely Tink.

I'm a cautious driver of a Van. I'm also legally blind with sight in only one eye; so I pick and choose when and where I drive. I'm also a senior driver. ;)

Thank you for your support and good luck to you

I find myself driving more calmly when I'm driving a hybrid. With a gas guzzler, I'm not likely going to let a slow and lost driver hold me back.

I'm also now going to work later and going home late. This allow me to avoid the congestion.

Recently picked up a Garmin dashcam. The GPS allows me to see how fast I'm driving and also how much G-forces when I brake, accelerate and go into turns.

It is good to be a cautious driver, no matter what type of vehicle you are driving. Aggression leads to accidents.

I am a cautious driver, but I can also be scatter-brained and inattentive. I think it comes from having PTSD, due to having a really bad wreck 3 years ago. We rolled our SUV and camper 3 times.:scared1: It was really a terrible experience and I still have flashbacks regularly a few times per week, mostly when I am in traffic with 18-wheelers or going under bridges on the interstate. The flashbacks cause me to temporarily take my attention off the road. I have to make a conscious effort to keep my eyes on my surroundings when it happens, and it can be very hard to do that when you're visualizing scary stuff.

You can get a driver's license if you're legally blind? That scares me a little

Not legally.

The PP is in Ontario and the rules for a normal liscence (note that Class G is a normal licence for a car and M is for a motorcycle) are:

Vision Standards - Class G and M

In addition to the basic medical standards for all drivers there are also mandatory vision standards for driving.

Ontario Regulation 340/94 (s. 18) requires that an applicant for or a holder of a Class G, G1, G2, M, M1 or M2 licence must have,

A visual acuity as measured by Snellen Rating that is not poorer than 20/50, with both eyes open and examined together with or without the aid of corrective lenses; and
A horizontal visual field of at least 120 continuous degrees along the horizontal meridian and at least 15 continuous degrees above and below fixation, with both eyes open and examined together

And the definition of legally blind (from the Canadian National Institute for Blindness) is:

Legal Blindness: The definition for legal blindness may vary among countries. Millions of people have partial or complete loss of vision in Canada, where normal vision is defined as 20/20 and legal blindness is defined as worse than or equal to 20/200 with best correction in the better eye or a visual field extent of less than 20 degrees in diameter. In Canada, a visual acuity worse than 20/50 disqualifies people from obtaining a driver?s license or restricts their driving to daytime only, as do some visual field deficits.

I'm a very defensive driver and a rule-follower. I was taught to drive by a police officer (my daddy!). He is very instinctive regarding what other drivers are likely to do based on their behavior. At 89, he can still spot a drunk or inattentive driver and predict their next move. He'll say, "Stay out of that lane because that guy is probably going to swerve into it." Sure enough, they do! If I see a person rushing up to a stop sign or red light and I need to cross in front of them, I hesitate a little to ensure they're actually going to stop. My husband always says, "Just go. They have a stop sign." It doesn't mean they're going to stop! I've had several instances where the person ran the sign and would have hit me if I hadn't hung back a little. I also don't let people bully me into doing something illegal. If the sign says "no right turn on red," I'm not going to turn no matter how many times you honk your horn.
