Driving question to Universal

If I want to be at Universal Hollywood before it opens what time should I leave the Paradise Pier hotel? Driving directions say 50 minutes but what will the traffic be like? The park opens at 9 and we would like to be there by 8:30. Do I leave at 7?

If it's a weekday, allow for 2 hours. Weekend, 1 hour 30 minutes.
