We (DH, DD (5), and I) are making our first drive to WDW next month from Chicago. Here's my plan:

Saturday: Start driving about 7:30 PM (have a party to go to so we can't leave earlier), stopping somewhere around Louisville. I'll be driving this leg of the trip and sleeping in this day.

Sunday: Leave the hotel by 10, drive to the Chattanooga area and take about an hour break, then continue to Valdosta to spend the night with my mom.

Monday: Take my mom out to lunch for her birthday, then head to Orlando, arriving early evening. We might take a beach detour because DD has been BEGGING to go to the ocean for 2 years.

Heading home -

Friday: leave MK by 6, drive to Valdosta and spend the night with my mom again

Saturday: Drive to at least Louisville, maybe all the way home depending on weather and how we feel.

Does the plan look feasible? DH won't do the drive though the mountains and prefers not to drive at night.

Any suggestions on where to stop the first day on the way down?

What time will you get to Louisville? Midnight?

10 a.m. seems like a late time to leave the next day to me ...I'd be up and out by about 7 with 2 drivers (oh heck, I'd be out by 5 a.m., but there's probably something wrong with me! :lmao: ) I guess I'd want to maximize the time with Mom, too, by starting out earlier.

Good luck deciding!!!

We'd probably get to Louisville about 1 with the time change. If it was just me, I'd be going straight through but I know it will take longer with dd. And DH lol.

The time we leave the hotel in the morning definitely has the potential to be earlier but I don't know how well hubby will sleep and I don't sleep well in the car
