We are coming from Ontario, and plan to stop to sleep for a few hours aroung midnight. We hope to be around the Florida border when we stop. We are travelling in 3 trucks and trailers, and dont really want to pay a campground for maybe 5 hours. Does anyone one have any suggestions where we should stop. Is it true that you can stay in walmart parking lots? This might be an option if there is one nearby.

Most Walmarts in Florida do not allow overnight parking, but many do in other states.

You just have to look at a map and figure out what general area you may stop, try to find a Wal-Mart, Flying J, or Cracker Barrel in that area, and be sure and ASK PERMISSION to park overnight.

It might be adviseable to call ahead to various places.

Also you are PARKING overnight, not camping, so no generators, camp chairs, awnings, etc. (Some folks claim you shouldn't even put out your slideout, but that's probably pushing the point a bit too far.)

When we travel down to the Fort or other places we always stay over at Walmart. We try to call in advance and make sure it's ok first though. We also try to park so we're on the outer most part of the parking lot so that the slide-outs go out over grass or something.

Safe travels.

Sam's Clubs will also let you park in their lot, especially if you are a member.

Flying J's, Pilots, hospitals, churches.....

Rest areas are the best bet if you can find one.... there should be one in the area. i know there is one not far from the fort.. we've stayed there a few times.

There is a Flying J and I think a Pilot in the area of Brunswick, Ga. that is just a couple of miles north of the GA/FL border. Brunswick is around 3 hours from FW. Since there will be three families security is not that big of a concern and just park at the back or away from the main building where a lot of 18 wheelers park and visit the store or buy fuel when you arrive or before you leave to give them some business.

Most of the rest areas I've seen either prohibit overnight parking or limit how long you can park there, maybe like 2 hours or so.

Larry is correct. If you are coming down I-75, there is a Flying J at Georgia exit #2. We usually stop and fill up there. Have a safe trip!
