Just wanted to pass on the news/tip. We are Socal Select Pass holders and have a parking pass as well. I called yesterday to confirm, our parking pass covers the RV we plan on driving up! Was thinking that we would have to pay the $20 in parking for the technically over sized vehicle, (27' Van Front Camper), take a shuttle over, or drive a second vehicle up, but NO :) it is covered under our annual parking pass that we purchased with our passes :) Sweet deal huh?

Anyone else drive an RV to DL? We usually stay in an off site hotel (candy cane inn) but we recently got an "new to us" RV that we thought might make the trip a little easier and cheaper with the four kids. No Eating Out!! :) We are planning on staying at the Anaheim Harbor RV "resort" (essentially a parking lot with hook ups). It's only going to run us $160 for the entire 5 days (with a 10% military discount) vs the $600+ for four nights at a hotel!!!!

Personally I am excited to have the extra cash for all those holiday treats!! lol

ps. I am a long time lurker that FINALLY signed up to join in the fun. Your site has been an AWESOME resource when planning our trips and thought this info was worthy of signing up and sharing so someone like me, a habitual lurker, could benefit as well :)

Sorry I can't help you, but I wanted to say welcome to the DISBOARDS!!!:goodvibes

Sounds like you are going save a huge amount by staying in your RV vs. hotel:thumbsup2

Have a great trip!!!

That's GREAT!! Enjoy your visit and please let us know how it goes! :)

why take the effort of hooking and unhooking everyday to drive to and from the park...
Just park it once, hook everything up and then take an ART shuttle to and from the park?

no parking hassles, and no traffic to deal with after a long day at the park.

Used our RV many times to visit DLR and have always parked it and forgot it.
use the shuttles, you will be saving tons of money on meals.

All of the RV parks near DLR are glorified parking lots. The old Disneyland RV park over on West street was nice but still just a parking lot. Nothing like Fort Wilderness at WDW.. I always prefer to sleep in my own bed instead of someone elses.

Welcome to the disboards! :cool1: Sounds like you have a great trip planned!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I agree about sleeping in your own bed! Personally I am looking forward to loading up once at home and unloading once we get home. No lugging a family of six's stuff in and out of hotel room, double and triple checking to make sure we got everything out. Plus there's no check out time for our RV :)

So ART is pretty good. I was worried that it would take us all around Anaheim before and/or after it drops us off at DLR.

What "RV Resort" (ie parking lot with hook-ups) do you stay at?

Hi!

I would say that is worth the hassle to un-hook the RV and drive it over to the Park.

With a large family it will be a real blessing to be able to take the baby back to the RV for naps, and being able to have your own place to make lunch and dinner!

You wont need to rent a locker to store jackets and gear--it will be waiting for you in the RV!

I never knew that RV parking was included in the parking pass, what a nice bonus!

Enjoy your trip!

Cathy

I have stayed at just about all of them over the years...
They are all about the same distance from the park and about the same as far as amenities.
The ART stops right at the RV park...they also sell tickets there.
if you go online here ART passes
you can get discount passes.
they are good for all day as many times as you want to ride to and from.
also on the ART website you can find route schedules and maps.

you could also walk it....a little less than one mile...:)

That's what I was thinking too! We have downsized to a single stroller and it has A LOT less storage space than the sit-and-stand we've brought all the other times. Plus baby will be just about two months so walking back to take a little rest, for everyone actually, will be nice.

I'll have to look into how often ART runs to/from and how long the trips are. It may actually be worth un-hooking and driving over just to eliminate the unloading and reloading of the stroller and getting on/off the bus. If we do park over at the park (I am assuming it is just outside the Mickey & Friends structure) we would walk it through downtown disney and skip the shuttle madness anyway.

thanks for your help/replies/opinions :)

Just a thought, but can you tow a car and drive it to and from instead of hooking up and unhooking the RV? If not, I would say take the ART instead. I know I wouldn't want to be trying to hook everything up late at night, and then unhook it all bright and early the next morning.
:thumbsup2

The joys of RVing. You'll find out how 'close' a family can be. Used to love the RV parks on West street until 'some one' decided to build a parking structure on top of them. :rolleyes1

We can't wait! The $ we are saving on a hotel is :cheer2: awesome! We are already pretty darn close, all the kids are "little. We've got 6 year old twins, a 4 year old, and the closest of all, our newest little one is going to be 2 months old on our trip.

Welcome to the boards!

We too take our Toyhauler trailer when we do Disney and stay at Orangeland Rv park. We love it there!! It is a very nice, quiet park, not too far away and has cirtus trees that they welcome you to enjoy the fruit from!! The kids love it, they take the map with the types of trees and enjoy picking!

Although we have a truck that we tow the trailer with, we have taken an RV and love the fact the we can take the kids to the RV for their naps and down time plus lunch and everyone gets a chance to recharge!

There is nothing like sleeping in your own BED!

Have a great time, enjoy the savings...it makes the trips a little more magical!
