Driving on Thanksgiving Day

We are from northern Indiana and are planning to drive to WDW, leaving on Thanksgiving morning (midnight). Wondering about traffic on I65 and I75 on Thanksgiving, will it be totally busy or not much traffic? TIA for any info.

Don't know the answer to that, BUT, do NOT drive home on the Sunday after Thanksgiving!! One year we did that and once we hit the Georgia line on I-75 we never broke 35 MPH until we reached Atlanta, then moved over to I-20.

Diving on such an important day is always very exciting. i have the same experience. I also recommend you to have fun there.

Make sure you eat at the interstate plazas! We have found driving on Thanksgiving that VERY FEW restaurants are open. We were starving one trip because we didn't eat while on the turnpike and could find nothing open.

You should be fine driving on Thanksgiving. Everyone is already at Grandma's house already.

You've already got the warning about coming home the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Regarding restaurants...I guess it is hit and miss on open restaurants. A lot of the restaurants here in the Cincinnati area are open. Maybe you'll have problems the further south you go.

We drove Thanksgiving morning last year to visit family in Ohio. It took us over 11 hours to make a 4 1/2 hour drive. There were no accidents, just bumper to bumper traffic.

You will find more restaurants open than closed on Thanksgiving Day, especially earlier in the day.

My stepbrother and sister-in-law live in NC and they always travel up to DE on T-giving day. They have to use a planned out route though, since as many people said, many restaurants and gas stations are closed. They rarely hit a lot of traffic coming north, and they use the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel rather than going around Baltimore/Washington.
