Driving on St. Martin

I was thinking of renting a vehicle on St. Martin, but have been told by a friend that it was not safe to drive. Anyone attempted to drive there.

Sure. No problem. They even drive on the same side of the road there as they do in the U.S. (as opposed to St. Thomas where they drive on the other side of the road). I drove in St. Maarten with no problems.
