Driving myself nuts. WWYD?

:confused3 How does she know this? 3 months ago, my family was perfectly normal. 6 weeks ago my dh was diagnosed with acute myelod leukemia and has been hospitalized every since and we'll definitely be cancelling our couple disney trip for August.

No one knows if they will have "plenty of chances" to do any thing. If her heart is set on going solo (although I voted take the kids) she should follow it.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry and can relate. Two months ago we were planning our Summer trip to Europe with our 2 children to celebrate DD's 16th birthday. My DH was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma the first of March. The trip has been cancelled and we are now preparing for a Summer stay in Houston for a stem cell transplant. In the last 2 months we've made 3 trips to Houston, 800 miles round trip with the next one scheduled in 10 days.

Sorry to hijack, but yes life can change in an instant. I'll say a prayer for you and your DH. This is a stressful journey.

To the OP, I'd still likely take the kids as to me that's more likely the choice that you can't make later and will regret more.

I don't have much to add but like another poster said, if it were something the kids would enjoy and appreciate, I would take them in a heartbeat.

Looking forward to hearing what you decide/d.

I'm still waiting on a call from one of the dads. I told him I'd be up until about 1 a.m. so I'm hoping he calls me as soon as possible; I'm all jacked up waiting to figure out what I'm going to do, and a lot hinges on this call....!!!!

I was wondering what you'd decided to do! I think it's terrific that you've decided to take them if it all works out. Hope you get the right answer from the dad! :thumbsup2

How are the kids broken up as far as siblings? All 3 siblings or all 3 cousins, etc? Maybe you could take a trip with 1-2 of them now and then the other 2 or 1 next year or year after? Do you tend to go yearly? If you do, you could possibly bring 1 child at a time.

It's really nice that you are trying to work them into your vacation!

I think it's really nice to want to take your niece and nephews to WDW. However, it sounds as if doing so would really be a financial stretch for you, especially since it seems as if their parents aren't contributing.

I think you should take your solo trip. Why not do something less expensive with your young relatives, such as visiting them in their town and doing some fun things there? Less expensive, less stressful than taking 3 kids on your own to WDW, and probably just as much fun for them.

Wow, that is really cutting it so close, and their ages are areally at "that stage" if you take them by the second day the stress could also flare the intestine issues. I would just go alone this year, in the fall, less crowds do what you would love.

You can always take the kids another year, and I would consider taking someone with you to help. If their mother, or your mother, then they can hold a place in line, be more understanding about you.
Kids that age, even the best behaved, have a lot of sibling competion and you will never make them all happy the entire trip enough for everyone to enjoy.

Why not do something with them closer to their home to really get an idea of what your getting into. Maybe they can even begin so chores, or raising funds for the extras.

Your heart is in the right place, but the timing seems off if you really need to debate it.

Thanks so much to everyone for your input; it helped me to realize I should take them. Upon trying to get it to work logistically and making the preliminary calls, I found out that there is one part missing and I won't be able to take them at all this summer.

I'm at peace with this decision, because I finally made a decision and tried to pursue it, only to find out it wasn't possible. The reason it's not possible isn't my fault and I can't fix it, so that makes it easier too.

If anything, this made me realize that I DO want to spend some quality time with them and get back reconnected; I hope to spend some time with them this summer for sure, regardless! I will still be going to Disney in September, but I will probably be going solo; I'm already changing my mindset again and looking forward to another trip, even if it's alone.

Again, thanks to all.

Inquiring minds want to know (aka I'm nosey :bitelip:) ... what was the problem? I'm glad that things worked out for you. Bummer that the kids can't go to WDW this summer.

Maybe you could take them to Great Wolf Lodge for a weekend? That place is AWESOME!

whoa, that's a fantastic idea!!! We've been there a couple of times and the kids absolutely love it!! It's much cheaper Sun-Thurs, so we go on Sunday and I bring the kids back to school monday, they miss a little school in the morning, but it works out fine.
