Driving licence

Hello, I have been wondering for some time now wether DH and myself should apply for the new photo driving licence. It would cost about £46 for the pair. We will be using mainly t/chqs and i'm a bit worried about carrying my passport around all the time. Do you think that it is necessary, or should we just save our money?

Save your money.

We don't tend to use Travellers Cheques but if you do they normally don't need to see your passport - your current Driving Licence would be sufficient I am sure.

We have always survived with our old style DL so you shouldn't have any problems.

Ring the company you have booked your holiday through and they will be able to tell you just to be safe

I have only just upgraded to a photo driving licence because we moved recently so I didn't have a choice. I have travelled to Florida 10 times and NEVER carried my passport around, only my old driving licence which didn't have a photo. As the travellers cheques are usually in my name, its me that has to sign. A lot of places don't even look at the licence properly so I really wouldn't worry.

Jackie, can I ask how much it cost you to get your new licence.
I moved recently and got the forms, but it says that if you move house its free, but then it says if your converting, it costs....its not clear really.
How much did you pay ?

It was free! Not much is nowadays I know!

If you go to www.dvla.gov.uk, select English Version and under the first heading "Drivers Information" select the link in the first line "Find Information" then click on the second question down "Change of Address and/or name" and that clarifies everything.
