We are leaving in another day coming into Orlando, then Siesta after, we are staying in Port Orleans, anyone else traveling in this week? A little worried about the weather on the way, any travel tips? We have three kids, so always makes for a interesting ride

Rest areas in Southern IL all have playgrounds. :)

Stop and stretch more often than you think you need to. Your body will thank you.

We are driving from just outside of Milwaukee to Disney in October. The plan is to leave at 4 am to beat Chicago rush hour, stop in Cave City, KY at the Dinosaur World to let my little 3 year old dig for fossils and run for two hours and then drive to Perry, GA. There is a nice, cheap, Microtel in Perry that we like staying at. From Perry, it's just a 4-5 hour drive to Disney.

For our route back, we will probably leave around noon and stop south of Chattanooga for the night (haven't decided on the hotel yet). In the morning we are going to stop and enjoy Lookout mountain and do their incline train. I anticipate this to only take two hours. Then we are going to take IH 24 all the way to Paducah, KY and take IH 57 up to Chicago. IH 57 is a much more tranquil, there is less construction, and gas seems to be cheaper along that route compared to IH 65 (which takes you through Indy, Louie. and Nashville) IMO.

For your trip down, I would recommend taking I-57 through Illinois to I-24. Hopefully, this will allow you to follow the rain and not be directly in the storm the whole ride down. Best of Luck!

^If you can take 294 as well. It's going against the rush hour traffic around the city.

As for travel tips.....PATIENCE! :)

We did a 12 hour ride last years with 2 1/2 year old twins. Multiple stops (every two hours) whether we needed it or not, just to give everybody fifteen minutes of "alone time."

Our life on road trips is SO MUCH easier if we print out a map for our kids with our route marked and labeled with a few landmarks. I usually use state lines or cities and when anyone asks if we're there yet I can tell them which dot or line we are at and how much longer until the next one. We we are going more than 3-4 hours away, a map is a MUST for us. We've literally turned back around to go home and print one before (we were less than 15 mins away)

The aquarium at Chattanooga is really nice. Take it in if you have a chance :)

Oh, and eat at Rafferty's in Paducah - exit 4, just north of I-24.

Driving through the mountains is fun, but scary when everyone else around you is just flying around the turns....But still pretty to look at.
