Is it advisable to drive from Calais in February or is the weather very bad?

Also do the hotels charge for parking?

I've only done Eurostar but now the kids count as adults it's just too pricey.

Thanks for any help.

Libby

Hotels include parking if you stay with them.

I drove last November in a major blizzard, had to take it a bit slower but got there in the end.

The roads between Calais and Paris are very good and easy to drive on so it will be easy.

I couldn't tell you anything about your route and the roads there, because we drive from another direction. But we've been in DLRP in february twice.
Be warned: It has been unbelievable cold outside. Both times it was below freezing degrees. One time even 11 degrees below freezing!!!
On our route (from Germany) the lane is good and is a long distance just straight.
We almost never had any traffic jam, I think because of the tollbooths, the freeways are usually not very crowded in France. Except for the last time in february, the lane was iced and we had a bad traffic jam.
Sorry, don't want to discourage you, but february is a very cold season there and you couldn't build on fine weather. :guilty:

Most of the route is motorway but as others have stated expect it to be cold so drive cautiously :)

Does anyone have a good route planner (fool proof, hubby is driving) that they use. We are going over on the euro tunnel in December for our anniversary, will be the first time we have driven.

Thanks for that. I was expecting it to be cold but wasn't sure how the roads would be. It sounds as though it's worth going, we'll just have to allow plenty of time for the journey.

Thanks for your help.

we used via michelin for route planner - i think its www.viamichelin.com and it was ffol proof ,we drove in early march and the roads were really simple mostly motorway with 2 tolls i think,1 to get the ticket then another to pay further on ,took 3 hrs from calais with 1 short stop ,we drove to davy crockett ranch
