Hi All:

We're driving from Chicago to WDW, and we're trying to figure out how to transport our double stroller.

It doesn't collapse like an umbrella stroller, it is as wide as it is when fully assembled. It does collapse top to bottom only.

I say just strap it to the roof, husband thinks there's a better way, but he doesn't know how.

I have a Chevy Traverse, but the 3rd row seating will be occupied. The stroller is a Twinner II, pictured here:

What other option would you have other than to strap it to your roof? I guess you could put it where your luggage will be in the car (if it will fit there) and strap your luggage to the roof. The easiest thing would be to rent a stroller once you get there.

The other issue you have is getting it on the buses at WDW. And if the front wheel will not swivel, you might not be allowed to use it in the parks. With a fixed front wheel, it gets very difficult to turn in the parks and could cause you to run into people, especially if the parks are crowded.

From the WDW FAQ site:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
Alcoholic beverages
Weapons of any kind
Folding chairs

You might want to measure your stroller opened up and see if it meets these requirements.

Could you look into taking two strollers or purchasing a double stroller that is fully collapsible? You could check Craigslist if you are on a budget. I think the fixed wheel will be frustrating for you and the large size could be a challenge in many situations.

Or rent one as pp said.

We used our BoB Duelie so I'm sure your's is fine size-wise. We used to fold it flat and take off the front wheel, that way we could stand it up against the wall in the back and pack the luggage up against it.
If the front wheel is fixed it may be hard to maneuver in the parks though. Ours was a swivel wheel so it was easy to drive. Think about that.
I know a lot of people advocate renting but if you will be there for an extended trip, buying a smaller used stroller off Craigslist for $50 or so is a much better deal since they are $30/day. We found a nice double lightweight stroller that we used just for vacations when we didn't want to bring the big BoB. I also preferred having my own stroller so we didn't have to take sleeping kids out at the end of the day (we usually drive to the parks instead if using the bus).

You can rent from an offsite place and it will be delivered to your hotel, then at the end of your trip you leave it with Bell Services so the company can pick it up.

We're renting a double for our twin 2 year old grandsons for an upcoming trip and feel the price is very reasonable. Here is the site we are using:

Are you planning on using Disney buses? It looks like it'll be a pain to take on the buses. What happens with the front wheel and area the front wheel attaches to when its folded? It looks like to could be a hazard on the buses.

I know you were asking about transporting it in your vehicle but if you can't figure out how to get it in your car, you might want to think about how you'll get it on the buses (if you plan to use them).

Also, how far does that front wheel stick out? Is it easy to see that wheel with the canopy open? It looks like it could cause problems in the Parks (especially crowded areas).

How old are the kids?

If it was me and we'd get at least 2 WDW trips out of it (depending on age of course) - I would buy a new-to-me-just-for-wdw-stroller. We bought one used for around $35 or so when our kids were 2 and 3 and got lots of uses out of it. AND, we didn't really care if it got harmed on the plane in checked bags or stolen at the parks (and it was an older model so no one would have chosen this one to steal).

We got a side by side that would collapse really flat. Honestly if you're going to be going to WDW more than once - I think you will appreciate a stroller that's easier to transport. Both in the car on the way down and on the buses on and off each time.

My bob duallie folds better than that and I have a suburban and transport it with the 3rd row up and it still takes up a ton of space. Here's my recommendation. I would buy a used double with a small fold (maybe a maclaren if you can find one) or rent a stroller from an outside company (magic, apple strollers, OSR, kingdom, baby wheels, I am sure I missed a few).

We drove and rented a double stroller that was delivered to our resort. DH didn't want to have to worry about fitting the bags around the stroller. Renting was by far the easiest way to go.

If you are set on taking a huge stroller like that then you should probably disassemble it as much as possible. Take the wheels off and put all hardware in a ziplock bag and tape it to the stroller frame or a wheel. Make sure you bring any tools you might need to assemble it too.

You could rent one FREE from apple scooter. Just pay ins and tax. Depending g on when your trip is. The offer exp 12/31/13. We booked ours. They deliver free and pick up

This is my first post so I can't post a link but google apple scooter store.

I agree on renting. That stroller looks like a pain to work with.
We have the Baby Jogger City Mini as our WDW stroller. Bought it a few years back and it is great! They rent the double and it is well worth it.
Check out the apple scooter site. Great deals for rentals!

We opted to buy Combi Urban single strollers instead of bringing our double stroller. They weighed 10lbs, trifold quickly and compactly. We also liked being able to easily maneuver through the parks with singles, being able to separate if the kids were interested in different things, etc. We have a Chevy Traverse and can stack the strollers in front of the captains chairs without bothering our two youngest kids (who will use the strollers on their first trip in 1-2 years).
