I know there have been discussions on driving from Michigan before (I only live 10min from the Windsor/Detroit border) But....maybe someone has a newer experience/tip to share

Here are my Questions....

1) What time do You leave? And Why?

2) Do you split the driving and go straight through? :confused3

3) If you stop...Where? and Do you make reservations?

Please....if you are giving me info "from my house in Mich"...Let me know the aprox driving time to Detroit so I can figure it in my calulations (since I'm failry illerate with didtances in Mich ;) )

I'm driving with a 13yr old who is used to 20hr drives and a 14yr old who will behave as long as his Nintendo keeps working :rotfl:

TIA!!! :worship:

Hi. I live off of exit 15 on I75. We have driven to WDW 3x and again this June. We do something different each time! The first thing to do is buy Dave Hunters Along I 75. Great Book! We never drive straight thru. 1 time we took 3 days with a side trip to the ocean. We usually spend the night in Chattanoogo or near Valdosta and never make reservations. We always stop at each states' welcome center and pick-up the magazines with hotel coupons. We use a cell-phone to see if there are any vacancies. This year the tentative plan is to leave on Sunday at 9pm and drive until I can't drive anymore. Our reservation for Pop Century starts on the 21. If we get to Orlando early enough we plan on getting a hotel for 1 night while some of our group goes to Universal Studios. Bottom line we wing it driving down, but I am an ultra planner while at WDW!

I drove it last August with my 8 year old and lots of movies and a portable DVD player. We live near London, Ontario and we left at 4:00 a.m. on a Saturday and were over the border and through Detroit by 6:00 with almost no traffic. It is about an hour and 45 minute drive to Windsor from where we live. I drove all day until about 7:00 p.m. with just food and washroom breaks. We stopped on this side of Atlanta then got up at 6:00 and drove through Atlanta on a Sunday morning with so little traffic it was bizarre. We were at POFQ by 2:30 that afternoon.
Buy the Along I-75 book. It was wonderful to have and made the trip more interesting. The information in it is very accurate and I loved being able to track where I was.
Have fun but beware the trip home for us seemed very long. It wasn't any longer of course but the anticipation was gone and my daughter got antsy about Cincinatti.
This summer we are flying out of Detroit on Spirit. I don't want to drive again and the flights are very cheap right now. Good luck with your trip!

Tips-Do Not hit Cincinnati during a rush hour-do not hit Atlanta during a rush hour. Figure 13 hours from my hometown in KY (exit 126)-1 hour south of Cincinnati-to the Disney sign-that is with 5-6 gas/fast food stops. We do not do sit down dinners while on the road-that is the reward for reaching our destination. If looking for motels along I75 in KY-they are usually clustered and spaced about 30 miles apart-there is quite a bit of new construction-finding a clean room should not be a problem.

Thanks all!

Briarbaby....Where do you live? I grew up in London and still have family there (including the nephew I'm bringing with me....He's coming to my place the night before we leave!) I Love the London area...too bad my DH's family has a business here that he works at. I'd try to convince him to move to Lucan or around there If he didn't! ::yes::
