Driving from Western New York

I posted this on the transportation board as well, but thought my camping friends may be able to help too...

We will be driving from the Buffalo area in August towing our 27 ft. travel trailer. From what DH tells me our route is I79 to I95 in GA. The plan is to leave Friday afternoon and drive into Washington, PA. The next morning we leave and drive until Savanah, GA. Sunday morning we complete the drive to WDW arriving around lunch time. We're wondering if anyone has any suggestions or helpful info regarding ourp lan. Anyone have info about towing a trailer through the tunnels in VA? Is it allowed... is it easy to by-pass? Please offer any thoughts and suggestions. Thanks!!

I don't know about the tunnels, except that I have read that folks with 3-way fridgies have to move them over to 12V and turn off their gas before entering the tunnels.

Now whether your particular size will fit, dunno

We live in Virginia and go to the Fort often and if you are staying on I95 then you should not have to go through the tunnels. Even if you were to use a tunnel here, the only thing you would have to do is make sure the propane is off. Hope this helps.

We live in Uniontown, PA (south of Pittsburgh) We catch I79 in Morgantown (just south of where you'll be) and drive the first day to the Point South KOA. This is about a 12 hour drive for us with our 29' trailer - for you from Washington also. (we take 79 to US 19 - this saves almost an hour over going through Charleston, even with the lower speeds and couple of stoplights - then join back up with I-64 to I 77, staying on I77 till I-26 near Colombia, SC which cuts you across to I95 in SC. We go through the 2 tunnels and have had no problems, no need to detour. Our second day takes about 6 hours to FW check in. We have tried other routes and found this one to take the least time (unless you are returning on Jan 3rd with the thousands of other people ! We have done this trip many times with much success. If you can make it to Savannah then go for it - that will get you to Disney about an hour earlier! Our kids just can't go for more than about 12 hours!
FYI we get about 9 mpg when towing and have to stop for gas twice - always at tamarack in WV exit 45, and eat lunch in our trailer at the parking area, nice big and easy on/off. Then we can stop at the NC welcome centers for bathroom breaks if necessary. We then stop in SC on I77, exit 77 for gas/ snacks from trailer/ bathroom breaks again. This carries us to Point South (by which time everyone has to go to the bathroom as soon as we stop) Also, you probably have your plans for Savannah set, but just FYI the KOA at Point South has pizza on site they will deliver to your site, you can order when you check in and by the time you are done setting up, pizza is ready.
