Driving from San Diego to DL....

We will be arriving in San Diego at about 5:30 PM on Thursday and have booked a mini van. We were hoping to be able to grab a quick dinner either in SD or on the way up. Does anyone have any recommendations?? We are totally unfamiliar with the area but will have a GPS along. There are 7 of us, 3 adults and 4 kids.

Also according to Google maps its about a 2 hour drive, in the real world what does that translate to? TIA

It'll probably take you about 2 hours or a little less since by the time you get in & get your car you might be missing rush hour, or you might be in the middle of rush hour & it will take you a bit more than two hours.

About halfway from San Diego - LA area you'll go through San Onofre (can't miss the two nuclear plants on the left of the freeway). Very close to the plant are a Denny's & Carrows. It's about an hour from San Diego. If you want a quick bite to eat without leaving the main freeway area, you might want to stop there for a bite.

Mary Jo's recommendations are great. There are other freeway-close food places along I-5 as well. If you want to eat sooner, there are several places within site of I-5 in the Del Mar area. The exit would be Via De La Valle. It's probably about 25 minutes from the SD airport.

By the way, navigation is simple. Exit the SD airport and follow the signs to I-5 North. Stay on I-5 all the way to Disney Way.

well it took us a little under 2 hours. but that was at night when the highway was pretty empty. During the day it took us just about exactly 2 hours.

Baja Rockin' Lobster in Oceanside. It's on the pier, maybe on Oceanside Blvd. We are going to try this place out next month. My husband used to live there, and he's always talking about it. So, we're finally going to go w/ the family.[/I]
