Driving from New Orleans to WDW...

We will be starting on 24th Dec to WDW. Our check in is not until 4pm 25th. The plan is to drive 6-7 hrs on 24th and stop overnight and drive a shortter distance on 25th and get to downtown Disney by 10:00 AM. That way we get to see downtown Disney before checking into our resort.

What would be a good place to stop over?

We have very close friends that live in NOLA and do the Disney drive once or twice a year. Their usual routine is to drive to the Ocala area, where they have no trouble finding an inexpensive hotel for the night. The next morning its just a couple of hours to WDW.

we drive from New Iberia, we stop right around Tallahassee, after it, but before we turn onto I-75. I always get a few hotels info before we leave, so i know the prices and locations for gps

We live on the MS Gulf Coast and when we drive we stop in Lake City over night. Once we get to Tallahassee it is hard to stop because we are so close to 1-75. Once we are on 1-75 it is only about 3 hours to WDW. There are several decent hotels along the exits there. But, If I were driving from NOLA, I think we would stop in Tallahassee-about an hour from 1-75.

We are in our 40's now and have no children, so we fly non-stop on SW out of New Orleans getting good fares.

The last time we drove was after I got off work and we stopped in Lake City overnight about midnight. Around 3 a.m. I woke up to DH being completely dressed sitting on the other bed, door to hotel open and car being packed. After DH survived the beating, all he could tell me was "Mickey and Tigger are waiting, Mickey and Tigger are waiting!!!". That is why I will not drive with him anymore....

We will be driving with my parents and our 4 yr old. Straight drive of 10 hrs is a bit too much for my dad. With frequent stops it might end up being 13, so a stop will be better. I shall look into Okala & Tallahassee
