Hi,

We will be driving from NC in june to disney with 2 5 yr olds.

Need any and all advice. What time should we leave? Really wanted to drive straight thru but dont' know.

Thanks

my sister drove last year from philly with 3 kids. i printed a bunch of activity guides i found on the internet and they had car games for all age groups. they left in the evening and drove straight thru. i think it took them about 12-14 hours. they just packed a cooler and had planned to stop in the middle but just kept going. if you are the only driver though, this probably isn't the best option. they arrived around 3 in the AM and took a chance to see if the resort had any rooms. they were lucky enough to get the room that they were checking in to the next day so it worked out.

i have also heard alot of people say that one of the benefits of going at night is that the kids sleep most of the time so there are less bathroom breaks and less "are we there yet!"

We drive from NC to WDW at least once a year. My daughter is old enough to drive now so it is much easier! We have usually stop for one seat down meal and 2 -3 short stops. It takes us 9-10 hours from the north side of Charlotte.

When she was little, we used to leave about 1 a.m. We'd just pick her up in her pjs, strap her in with her favorite stuffed animals , and she was usually asleep till dawn.

We loved to sing while traveling. We would make tapes or be sure to take our favorites. That long streatch of 95 after Jacksonville isn't so bad when you are singing "Under the Sea" very loudly!

If at all possible, have a TV/VCR combo or DVD player in the car. We are driving for first time to WDW in March (from Catawba county), but regularly drive similar distances to other places. Our kids (6 & 4) can spend hours vegging out, watching TV. It is preferable to also have headphones so you and other adults can talk without having to hear the audio all the way down. This has been the best driving tip DW and I have discovered.
