which is the best way to drive from the Orlando Airport (MCO) to disney world?

i always take the beeline (FL 528) to I-4 to WDW.

but i just got an email from WDW telling me to drive via FL-417 to highway 536 to the main gate..

which is better? (i've never even been on 417 before)

or is it 6 of one, half a dozen of the other?

I think it's exactly that ! There's little difference IMO.

Personally, I go the 417 then 536 route. Why ? Not sure to be honest but it's a little quieter, you don't need to use I4 and using the 536 to enter WDW always reminds us of our first trip in 2000 !

We went 417 last time - very easy - I navigated us there with no satnav/map/dirctions (I am not known for my navigational skills )

Just remember change for tolls.

do they have people operated toll booths for those of us without change?

We just followed signs out of airport and got there no probs, only thing that mucked me up was virgin changing terminals so car hire was in different place

We use the 417 as it seems a bit quicker and is quieter. It is also a straight run in.

They do have manned tolls - 2 @ $1.25 to get you to the exit for the 536.

i was just looking at the map - it looks like a long drive out of the airport to the road - but i guess it just looks that way on the map..

i was thinking it would be fun to go this way to come in by the main gate...
we don't usually enter by the main gate, but it's a lot more special coming into WDW that way..

Its only a couple of minutes from the Airport to the 417 :goodvibes

Really like entering WDW and seeing the sign - after all the hours travelling it feels so familiar to be back on property :thumbsup2

The 417 route takes 30 minutes to drive from the airport to Disney. If you need to stop at a store to pick up groceries and such, there is a Super Target store at the Orange Blossom Trail exit and very easy to get to. If driving to Disney get off the exit. Turn left and the Target will be on the right side of the road just a 1/2 mile from the highway. The target is also one exit from Disney.

I think everyone's pretty much covered this already but I'll just add one more thing.

If you end up getting to the car during the rush hour you really want to avoid the I-4, it can get very congested.

We usually take the 417 - 536 route nowadays.

take south exit from MCO get on the 417
to get to the 536 exit at exit 6 - takes you straight onto 536, bottom of i drive -drive straight up 536 crossing over 535 straight to wdw :)
easy and quick route to get to the 192 as well if anyone is staying in a villa around there-
