I know driving from KY isn't nearly as far as coming from NY, but we thought it would take about 12 hours and we're trying to cut down on that time if possible. We're looking for a route that does not take us through Atlanta. (not that we don't like Atlanta) Can anyone help? :)

Mapquest is the way to go. The drive through Atlanta is actually quite nice, if you can drive through after 8pm or so. The bypass around Atlanta is quite long. And don't forget to take I475 around Macon and joining back up on I75 south - it's about 10 miles shorter.

Well, if you figure out a faster way let me know, please!!! We will be driving from Georgetown, KY the last day of March...

There's no faster way to get to Orlando from KY than to go straight through Atlanta.

- Try to time your arrival in Atlanta away from any rush hours. If you can avoid rush hour, you may well not have to slow below 45 MPH or so.
- Do NOT take the beltway around Atlanta. Just stay on I-75 all the way through Atlanta. Not only is the beltway longer, it's also normally just as packed as 75 itself.

 AAAHHHH!! DH wins. He said that Atlanta was the only way to go. I get really nervous going through there. It's so fast and I am always waiting to be in an accident. It will be after 8 p.m. when we go through so maybe it will be calmer. By the way, we're coming from Lexington. Thank you for your help. :worship:

We'll add to the no way but through Atlanta group. We have done the trip from the front gate of Disney to the Meijer at Hamburg pavilion in 12 hours (including 5 gas/potty break stops). Our last trip south it took closer to 14 hours, with accidents in the Knoxville area and an I75 total closure due to an accident 30 miles north of Atlanta-we diverted to US 41.

An option we looked at previously is 75 south to 40 east at Knoxville-then 26 through Columbia-to 95 and 4. 75 is the way to go.

Have fun.

I just wanted to say to my neighbors. I live in Lexington and will be going down on March 30. Have a great trip everyone! :)

Another Kentuckian here too. We are in Danville and going to WDW in July. We are hoping to fly if the price is right!

Lexington area here too, 4th of July week. Decided to go Southwest out of Louisville, but got a direct flight and a lot better arrival time.

Here in Green County, we usually go 2-3 times a year. Until last Dec, we always drove too. We flew out of Indy las Dec for about $90 roundtrip. Got basically the same rate for our April trip and hope we can get it again for October of this year. I haven't been able to get the rate that I likeout of Louisville, so we usually drive on up to Indy.

Good luck to everyone.

We have driven from Illinois several times and take I-57 to I-24 and take I-24 through Kentuky and Tennessee to get to I-75. No matter how we plan it seems like we end up in rush hour in Atlanta. It has seemed to me that you are better of traveling direct through downtown instead of on the bypass. We tried a different route last year taking I-65 through Alabama and getting off on US 231 near Montgomery and following it to I-10 in Florida. We thought that this might save some time but it did not there are alot of small towns that you end up traveling through and stoplight along the way.
Good luck with what ever route that you choose. :confused3

We were going to fly but from what we saw, it would cost almost $1,000.00 to get all three of us there. That's why we decided to drive. Did you wait until the last minute or get them early? I would LOVE to fly, but I just haven't found anything yet. We're leaving in October.

Nisiemouse, you have a wonderful time! I am jealous, though I am excited about going to MNSSHP this year. It'll be our first.

Yes, It's me again. I haven't been on much today and I'm trying to catch up. Thanks for everyone's responses. The last time we drove in 2004, we stopped for the night and then we drove straight through on the way back. It seemed to take about 12 hours or so with the needed stops like potty breaks and gas. I am already working with DD's teacher for next year and we'll probably leave from the school and keep on driving till we get there.

Looking at the best SWA rates available to anyone now, it looks like a family of three could fly SWA from louisville to orlando for cheaper than a 1,000. I was thinking it wa more like $620 which is still a lot, but you might be able to get a Ding that would lower it. If you can drive to Indy, I have gotten several dings from there that allowed us to fly for less than $100 per person roundtrip. I have better luch out of Indianapolis than Lsvl.

Hey everyone- We are from Casey Co, Kentucky and planning our first WDW trip for December 2006. We'll drive too! Safe driving to all!
