Driving from Indy area, want to stop at Beach?

We're making the drive down from the Indy area and I thought it might be nice to break up the drive home with a day/night at the beach. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You could hit one of the beaches in the Gulf side then drive up thru Alabama. We've done that. It's not a horrible drive.

We're leaving from Fort Wayne and doing something very similar. We're leaving early the morning of 10/23, stopping just south of Atlanta for the first night (approx 13 hours). Then 10/24 we're driving about 5 hours to Bradenton Florida (Gulf Side, near Tampa) and spending the day/night with a friend of mine and her family on Anna Maria Island. Then we're driving to Orlando (a little less than 2 hours) on 10/25. The whole trip (including the side trip to the beach), if I recall correctly, was around 18 hours or so.

Haha! That's where we went! My DD15's BFF just moved there right before Spring Break so we stopped for a visit. Nice beach!!

We love Anna Maria Island. I just want to get farther north this time, to break up the drive home. Thanks!
