Driving from Houston: Stop in Pensacola?

Ran a search and couldn't find an answer for this.

I need some advice from folks who've made this drive. (We've always flown before.)

We're leaving from a small town an hour NW of Houston and, from what I can tell, can make Pensacola in about 10 hours.

My question is, should we try to stay there for the night? I don't think we can make another 3 hours to Tallahassee since we can't leave until noon of our departure day.

Anyone have any experience with Pensacola motels? Ones to recommend? Ones to avoid? (I only need a clean, comfortable bed.)

Or are we better off stopping somewhere else (within an hour more or less of a 10 hour drive time)?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I would stop in Pensacola if I were you. We usually stop in Talahassee, but that was when we were driving from New Orleans. Cabot Lodge and Hampton Inn are two very reliable hotels. Both are very clean. I've never been disappointed by them.

Hi! Last November we went to WDW and stopped in Pensacola, which was perfect! A cheap, clean, comfortable hotel to stop in for the night is Ramada Limited. It is about an exit or two right when you enter Pensacola. It is $70 a night and includes a pretty good continental breakfast (donuts, bagels, cereals, cookies, coffee, juice, etc..)

I will be stopping in Pensacola and staying over again in this hotel on our next trip to Disney. BTW, be aware that along ur drive through LA, MS, and AL (are these the right abbrev.?) many gas stations and hotels are down due to the hurricane.

here's the hotel info:

my family drove to orlando from houston in 1995. we stoped in mobile. dont remember what hotel. when you get to florida border stop at the welcome center they gave fresh squeezed orange juice. it was yummy!

 Do you live close to Burton, TX? My in-laws live there, and they live about 6 hours from us. We live in northwest La. and we've always stopped in Panama City Beach (it's a 12 hr trip for us). That's a long trip for ya'll. :moped:

The beachcomber in Panama City Beach is where we always stay.

Have a great trip ! ! :wave2:

:wave2: No, but not far. Burton is 20 minutes west of Brenham, and we're 15 minutes east of Brenham!

Bluebell Ice Cream country :teeth:

Thanks for all the quick replies. Any other driving advice on I-10 and through Florida is much appreciated!

Hello from the Mississippi Gulf Coast!!
If you are traveling I10, you will have NO problem finding open gas stations here! We are still recovering, but our gas stations are, for the most part, back to normal. You will be hard pressed to find hotel rooms here, but they are available. We would love to have your family stay here on the MS Coast and see how we're recovering. It is a 9.5 hour drive from Ocean Springs, MS to WDW. This includes time to eat lunch. Hope this info helps you plan! Have a great trip!

We leave from NW Louisiana. We have driven from NW Houston a few times after picking up family members who went with us. If you are anywhere near Cypress, TX you can get to Pensacola in about 7 or 8 hours. Tallahassee will be about another two-three hours. Then you would have only about another four hours from Tallahassee to Orlando.

There are a bunch of hotels just off the interstate - choice hotels (comfort, quality, sleep inn), La Quinta, Hampton. You could make a reservation on line (maybe save a bit on an internet rate).

We'll be in Brenham in two weeks for the Blue Bell Fun Run. 5K and then all the Blue Bell you can eat.

jpmandan: One of my good friends lives in Ocean Springs in a FEMA trailer while her house is being rebuilt.

I drove from DFW area. We stopped in Lake City where I10 and I75 cross. We made it there in 14 1/2 hours. Easy Easy drive from Lake City to Disney.
