Driving from hershey...nuts?

Count me on the list to avoid I95 and northern VA like the plague. Even if you avoid all delays, the ride is stressful with aggressive drivers, even in the stretch from Fredericksburg to Richmond.

I81 to I77 through Charlotte to I26 in Columbia SC to I95 in SC is only about 40 miles longer than I95 -- the 40 or so minutes are well worth the sanity. This might even be more advantageous to the OP depending on where in GA they're stopping.

Enjoy your trip -- if you have time (and some extra $), check out Hershey Gardens on the hill near the Hotel Hershey. Beautiful place for family pictures.

Fortunately my DH has driven it once I mentioned to him about trying 81. We are stopping in Brunswick Georgia. We are meeting up with friends there so I doubt we will drive at night. I know flying is more convenient, but I honestly hate it. Need to take meds to get on a plane.

Now that we're in our 60's we have to stop and stay overnight but we love the 81 route south to Disney. When we were younger we took turns and drove straight through. Love the NC rest areas. It always took us about 24 hours, and we did best starting in the evening. Kids slept through the night well. We have terrible luck with DC -- even got stuck in a traffic jam at 3 am  I don't mind the trucks on 81, but would avoid this route in snow.

:)We have driven from Baltimore area to WDW several times and we always take 2 days each way to do the drive. Frankly, I think it is long and boring and the kids are pretty nuts by the end of it. We always take the auto-train from Lorton, Virginia to Sanford, Florida and love it. We get sleepers and really enjoy the ride.

For what it is worth, we are trying to be unborrowed on our DVC points, so this year we are bringing our RV and staying 12 nights in Fort Wilderness. So, we'll be driving and the kids will be nuts! :) But at least we will have fun at Disney.

We drive straight through from MN. I'll never tell you you're crazy!

But I do agree - avoid DC. When we drive to southern VA, we avoid it or we lose a couple hours in traffic that just doesn't move!

Hey -
Thats what we do too - best time ever 26 hours -worst 32 and a flat tire
I'm in the Blaine area ,suburb of mpls . -where are you in MN. ??

So I am nervous and excited...we are going to Hershey pa for July 4. Somehow I convinced DH we are almost halfway lets go to WDW. I didn't have many points but enough for a studio at okw. So trip looks like this. We'd July 3 drive from Boston to Hershey. Go to 1d (for dd) on fri the 5th. Leave am on the 6thfor Georgia. Spend night in Georgia with friends. Arrive at wdw on Sunday the7th. Stay till sat. Then drive home. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

We've driven from NJ many times. Always straight thru. Usually about 19 hours. The money we save not flying and car rental affords us the deluxe food plan.

My suggestion is to skip Hershey and drive straight to WDW!
