Hi there,

I have convinced my husband to take 2 days to drive from Toronto...however I am just wondering where everyone would recommend stopping the first day. We plan on leaving at 4am and maybe trying to drive until 7pm or 8pm. Long first day but shorter second. Any suggestions? thanks. Also...any good stops along the way......restaurants not to be missed or outlet. I have been trying ot find the book I-75 or I-79 but they are not available where I am right now.

We are doing the same thing, Id be really interested in this as well so... BUMP!!:thumbsup2

If you go over the peace bridge through buffalo. 14 hours from Oakville Ontario to Orangeburg SC . They have a great Holiday Inn express there. It has a pool free contental breakfast non smoking and is under 5 years old. Oh there are alot of restaurants in the area and fuel. We stopped there both our last 2 trips.

We are planning our first trip to Florida in December and due to the potential of bad weather we decided to travel through the midwest (away from the coast).

We are leaving from Mississauga @ 5:00 a.m., crossing at the Blue Water Bridge and then connecting with I75 all the way down to Florida. We used Google Maps to plot out approximately 12 hours of driving. That got us to Tennessee so we have now booked a hotel in Knoxville for the night. This only leaves us approximately 10 hours of driving the next day.

We then reversed the same thing from Florida back to Mississauga for when we return. This time we will stay in Lexington, Kentucky for the night and again only have 10 hours to drive home.

We booked both nights at different Best Westerns which are ok hotels and if you have CAA you get a really good discount. Hope this helps. :santa:

With regards to Best Western. .... Airmiles has the BW Travel Cards that you can get in various denominations if you are so inclined.

We do the haul from Ottawa but take the same route through the midwest as we go through GA to pick up my DS (10) just north of ATL.

It's a bit longer of a trip for us to get to Knoxville (16 hours or so) but still it's not too bad. This year we have a differnt car and are expecting better fuel economy .. less fill ups but DW is still trying to convince me to stop every 2 or 3 hours to stretch a bit ... :confused3

Thanks for the update. I was unaware that you could use Airmiles for Best Western hotels. I have almost enough Airmiles to cover the night on the way down and the way back. I just need to get about 200 more Airmiles for the second night (sounds like I need to go shopping :woohoo:). We have rented a house to stay in while we are in Florida.

There is also something on the best western site for people who use there hotel more than a couple of times I beleive. My wife just signed up for our trip out east. We will end up with free night somewhere.

I would take a look at the $/night at the hotel you are looking to book. If you have CAA or other discount that you can use.

I say this because I found that just getting the travel cards with Best Western (Basically gift cards) was a more efficient use of my Airmiles. I was easily able to cover hotels down and back last year. Hoping to be able to do it again this November. Just remember to order your cards at least a couple of months early as it can take up to 6 weeks for delivery.
