Has anyone here had any experience driving to WDW from the Denver area? We're a family of 6 and would be traveling in our minivan. Our kids (1,3,9, and 10) are fairly used to long trips (7 or so hours) in the car, but I'd still like some opinions on whether it would be worth the savings in airfare (in your opinions). Also does anyone have any good trip-planning websites to share? One that factors in lodging and gas costs along with drive times would be great. Am I asking for too much? :) Thanks everyone-
Wendy

Wendy, if you are a member of AAA, you can get Trip Tix, which outline a route for you. Also I have gone on mapquest.com, and you can plug in your info, and specify certain hotels you want to stay at, as well as different attractions.

Sorry I can't help you on routes- there is NO WAY my kids would make it that long in a car!!:jester:

Figure three days drive time, that's three nights in hotel rooms (you would need 2 rooms or a suite, so figure minimum $100 per night in hotel rooms in each direction, total $600.

Figure meals, even at fast food places would be another minimum of $125/day x six days for a totl of $750.

Gas/oil and tolls would be probably close to $400.

Not to mention wear and tear. It's almost 2000 miles each way. That's a lot of miles.

So cost wise, it's proably about $1750.

Now, add in the extra vacation days you would need, plus the emotional strain of six people in a minivan for three days each way. To me, it's NOT worth it!!!

Even if airfare is $400 each, it's still the better way to go IMHO.

I am leaving from Denver. I got 145.00 round trip to MCO thru Delta. the 1 year old could sit on your lap (I think) so 145X5 would be 735.00 for your family - much better than driving IMHO. If you want the name of the travel place I used to get that price just email me and I will send you their phone number - disneysnel3@msn.com - Whatever you decide I hope you have a great trip!

I also got a LUXURY car thru priceline for 20.00 a day! If you need a rental while you are there.

FLY FLY FLY

I'm flying from Denver this week nonstop on United for 209 each. Last spring we flew Delta for 130 each with a connection, we have friends also going this week for 150 on Delta (I was willing to pay extra to go nonstop). I think when they have sales it is often that cheap. With prices like that, no way would I drive that long. Travelocity has a fare watcher, will email you when the fare drops, that is how I usually find the cheaper tickets.
