I am going to be driving from ct the 4th of July weekend and I need advise from people who drive from this area. I will be traveling with my ds so I will be the only driver. I need to figure out what day and time I would need to leave because I need to book the hotel reservations. Would it be better if I go over the tappanzee bridge. I don't want to sit in traffic and I am thinking if I leave very early in the morning on saturday I would not hit the traffic. Any suggestions. Also what would be the halfway point and how many hours does it take to get from ct to orlando.

LISTEN TO THE RADIO...I like 880 am why? Because that week-end you don't know about traffic, one accident over the Tappen zee Bridge could kill you.

I agree though in general, going 287 over the TZB is usually better then going through NYC (The Cross Bronx can be brutal). Try and leave early Saturday. Granted everybody might have the same idea, but hopefully some will leave friday.

My last 2 trips driving to FL I used the Cross Bronx /GW bridge route. This was in Oct and Dec.

Did a Thursday night and a Friday night crossing(9-10pm) with a Monday and Tuesday morning return (3-5am)

I had absolutely no problems and saved time by not going the Tapan Zee route (coming from MA)

I know that this route can be lousy but if you plan your times right, it's better.

I would not try this way during rush hour.
