Hi all,

We ( me, dh, ds10, ds8) are driving from fairfield county CT Nov 22, expecting to pull into asmusic Sunday afternoon. Without leaving in the wee hours of the morning how far do you think we will make it. I believe it was disneydad who did this drive over the summer but can't find the thread. Is it better to take 95 all the way or is the garden state an option. I like the rest areas and scenic look. We are planning to start the drilve home on Friday as this being thanksgiving weekend trafic may be heavy. Does that seem ok? Well I thank you all in advance for all the great advice I know I am about to recieve

HI!!
We have driven several time from NYC and we take 95 South the entire way-- right to route 4 West straight into WDW. ::MickeyMo If you take the Garden State Parkway- you are going out of your way. When you get to the end of NJ- the only way to get to Delaware is the Cape May Lewes ferrry (takes 1 hour and 1/2 to get across the water) and then leave time for getting of the boat, etc. It adds alot of additional time onto your trip.

Taking 95 is the most direct way. Also, big tip-- avoid Washington DC on weekdays between 5:30am and 9:00am.. the commuter traffic is crazy and you will get stuck in it..

We love driving and feel that we save alot of money. We will be driving for our NYE trip this December. We are saving over $1400 by choosing to drive instead of flying!!

Anything else I can help with - let me know.

Hi! I'm in Fairfield county too!!

It's a real toss up as to which bridge would be better, the George Washington or the Tapenzee. I very rarely drive to Jersey, but when I do, I prefer the Tapenzee.

There is also another bridge north of Tapenzee that is rarely busy, I don't remember the name. You go up almost to Danbury to catch it.

Do you have AAA? They will map the route for you. I'd get 2-3 routes mapped, then listen to the traffic to see which bridge is more clear. You can also go to AAA's web site to map. I don't think you need to be a member.

Have a good trip!

Renee thanks for the info, when we travel to Baltimore we take the garden state to 95 so I don't think we need the fairy, please correct me if I am wrong.

Kim thanks to you also we prefer the tapanzee over the GW any day of the week. How long did it take you to get there from here?? LOL

Thanks again

Deanna

Hi - The bridge north of the Tapanzee is the Newburgh Bridge. How long do you estimate your drive to take? May consider driving in Feb. for 10 days since the airfare is almost $2000 for five of us. Any info would be great! I love these boards and all you helpful people!
Thanks.
Heather

We drove from MA this past summer using 95 all the way. You are about 2-3 hours closer to WDW than we are. We used the triptik from AAA and it was easy to follow. We went over the Tapanzee Bridge. Definately avoid DC during the rush hours. We left Northern MA at 4:00 am on a Friday morning and got to Rocky Mount, NC around 6:00 pm. We stopped about every 2 hours for short breaks. Have a great trip!

From the GW Bridge, the trip is 17-18 hours(driving time). We made the trip last year and don't live far from GWB. We left at 9:00AM avoided DC traffic and made it to Santee, SC(mid SC) by 10:15PM. That was with a 30 minute lunch stop and 1 hour for dinner. The next days drive was 5-6 hours. Just in time for check-in! :D
