driving from CT (Tappan Zee) when to leave

I am planning on driving the first week of August. I was thinking of leaving on a thursday but then I would have to wait until about 8:30 a.m. to leave because of traffic (rush hour) or I can leave on saturday at around 6 a.m. For those who go the Tappan Zee is it really bad in the morning during the work week.

We drive from the CT shoreline to NJ to visit an elderly relative quite frequently, both on week-days and week-ends. We've found I95 in southern CT harder to get through than going over the TZ bridge on week-day mornings. This is a personal opinion, but once out of CT, I think on a week-day, most of the traffic will be going the opposite direction over the bridge when you would be crossing. Hopefully, a NJ/NY Diser can offer additional thoughts for you. Good luck on your trip.
