Driving from Atlanta?

Well . . . I am one for flying. I hate to 'waste' a day or so just sitting in the car. I'm in Atlanta and the thought of driving to the port just makes me crazy.

For me, I would fly either early Saturday or in on Friday and take advantage of having the extra day as FUN! Not sitting in the car. Our flights were around $150 and there are 4 of us. In fact, on they way back we were able to get in a day at the parks. Another group had to leave for the drive and we all got home at the same time.

I guess it depends on how your kids are in the car. The other day we were driving to Destin from Atl. We passed the airport and my 4 year old said "hey... I thought we were going to the beach!". She had no idea that you can actually DRIVE somewhere and not take a plane. She (and my older DS) have been flying EVERYWHERE since they were babies. So much easier for me.

The driving/flying issue usually gets down to economics. We would love to always fly, but it is beyond our budget to do it more than once a year. A few years ago it was beyond our budget to do it at all.

Driving is tiring, but much more economical. We have been visiting WDW more often since we became DVC members and so we have to drive some of those times.

So for each family you have to consider your time constraints and budget and then figure out what works best for you. However you get there, you can be sure you will have a great vacation once you make it to WDW!::MickeyMo

Truthfully, my concern is more a loss of sleep. Either way, we may have to lose soem sleep the day before the cruise. If we drive, then kids don't sleep as well in car and at hotel, plus Dh will drive later int o the night before we stop. If we fly, we'll have to leave home before 6:00 a.m. because we are North of Atlanta and morning traffic to airport is terrible!!

For those of you who drive through the night, are your kids cranky. Mine don't do well with little sleep and unlimited access to icecream on vacation. I also don't want to be pooped at 9 p.m my first night and miss the night-time activities. My family is usually on an early schedule. I hope the inside cabin with no sunlight will trick us into sleeping later.

val,
our DD slept like a log. she was as happy and rested as one can get. it helps to run them into the ground before you leave. they sleep better when that tired. if you take a mild sleeping pill at the hotel it should help you sleep good. but of course your on vacation so the energy goes sky high. i can drive all day or night cause its what i do for a living. and DW loves to drive too. what sleep we missed on the drive down we made up for in the hotel. dont want to be tired at the start of the cruise. too much fun stuff to due.
