I know there are losts of posts about driving from Ontario to the States and then flying cheap to Florida from there. Does anyone in Alberta do this? Any suggestions on the best places to fly out of? :flower3:

Where in Alberta are you? Great Falls, MT has an international airport so it would likely have some ok deals. How many of you will be going? DH & I have driven from Winnipeg to Minneapolis to save $350/person, but that's a 7 - 8 hour drive and I'm not sure I'd do it again. We really didn't end up a lot of $$ ahead after we added up all the bills, but we treated it as a pre-holiday before our holiday. Gas there, a hotel overnight, park n fly fees, another hotel overnight, and gas home ended up costing us around $600. If we could get a fare that would save us more than $100, I'd consider it again.

Now if I were going with a family of 4 or 5 and it would save $350/person, I would hop all over the idea of another 8 hour drive to the states to catch a plane.

I'd be driving from Edmonton so I might be too far from the border for any actual savings. I'm just curious as I see people posting all these great deals under 200$ when flying from within the states on JetBlue and other discount airlines.

Yup we are pretty landlocked. Their is zero cost saving to driving to the US unless you are just interested in doing a fun road trip:thumbsup2

I've priced out flights from Great Falls before. Never seemed like a deal. It's 5 hours from Calgary so 8 hours for you. Great Falls doesnt get a lot of air traffic. Spokane may have some good deals but it's 8 hours from Calgary, add in motel & gas it may not be a deal.

You could always drive to Disneyland. It's approx 27-28 hours for you. Once you cross the border you stay on the same road until close to Anaheim.
I used under $600 in gas to drive to San Diego return with lots of drivng around for 2 weeks.

How man of you are going?
My brother did it and it took him 2 days of driving (a little less than 22 hours driving). It's only worth it if there are a lot of you guys going. If it's only a couple of you, then flying is going to be a much cheaper, safer and convenient flight down. You may have to get a rental(depends what you plan on doing), but you are going to save a lot of money by flying down.

Pm me if you want some help to find some good tickets. I'm assuming you are going to be flying out of Calgary right?

Thank you muchly for the offer, however I won't be going for a while. I'm just looking at ideas to try and reduce the cost to make going more of a reality
