Driving Distances...how far do YOU drive to DW?

We drive from the Eastern Shore of MD. About 950 mi from my garage to WDW entrance. Flying just got to be too much of a hassle and too expensive. For the price of 1 ticket and 1 car rental, we can drive there and back even with our gas guzzling Tahoe, enjoy 1 sitdown meal, pay $20 tunnel toll, and buy snacks. The convience and cost saving of bringing our own water/soda and breakfast foods for the room is worth the long drive. My husband & I switch driving every gas/necessary stop to keep from getting fatiqued. My daughter watches DVDs on the laptop or does school work.
Driving works well for our family, but isn't for everyone.

Best time- 16 1/2 hours (straight through, good weather, no traffic!!)
Worst time-19 hours (last January, icy roads in VA & NC)

Driving from around Houston in October--plan to stay overnight (somewhere half way! Don't know yet! gonna Priceline it :)

We drove down to Florida (from NH) once. Unfortuneately, not to DW, but 30 min. north east of it. We had 7 yr. old twins and I was 7 months pregnant. The trip was a blast! The kids did really well and we all loved it. We traveled during the winter though, so we DID hit a few snow/ice storms on the way there and back. I don't think I'd drive in the winter again, I just don't like the stress of driving in snow storms.

However, now we are a family of 5 and to fly out of Manchester, NH for 5 people would cost us a little over $1000. I am starting to plan our next trip to DW and thinking about driving down. We have our own minivan, so we don't need to rent one.

It took us 23 hours on the way down and we stopped 2 nights. We weren't rushing! On the way home we were racing just ahead of a terrible ice storm, so we preety much drove right through.

Our trip from Delaware is around 970 miles. It takes around 16 hours or so and we only stop for Breakfast in SC exit 163 and fill up as well. Besides bathroom stops, we drive straight through leaving around 9pm the night before, so the crew sleeps most of the trip.

We drive from north Georgia mountain area about 560 miles. Most of it is on I-75. We usually leave at 3 am, set the cruise at 70(gas guzzler) and arrive to stay in one of the Downtown Disney hotels between noon and 3 pm. So we have an evening to explore Downtown Disney before we head to WL. Oh, another thing, we always stop at that Disney place(the name escapes me at the moment) into north Florida. That always gets the kids excited and renewed energy after being on the road for 7 hours. We have a Ford Expedition so with a 10 DD, 5DD and newborn twins DDs, it's still going to be a bit cramped. Overall with the gas(3) and food breaks the drive is about 10 hours for us. Looking forward to WL suite in January!
