I thought i read that you can not use a car inside the fort, is that true. if we decide to drive to the parks will our truck be at the site or in a parking lot. are cars only allowed for move in/out. or can you use them each day from the site, just not to drive around the grounds.

thanks

once you get to your site. you have to walk, take bus to everywhere. except the Meadows Store or the front desk, you can drive there. check out this site for great Fort info. www.title-3.com If you can affford to rent a golf cart $50.00 per day, it is the best way to get around and park your vehicle at the overflow parking. :goofy:

If you have a mh or a tt you can keep 1 vehicle at your site. The is no parking at the settlement to take the boat to mk. You can drive to the outpost and park for mgm, ak or epcot. You can drive to the parks if you want and the is no charge to park when staying on property. patsy

but you can park the car for the night but take it out each moring from your site to go to other places. you just cant drive around the grounds correct. i checked out that site thanks looks like i have alot of reading to do.

Thats it. You may park at your site and use your car to get to and from the parks, you just can't drive around within the fort(except to/from your site)

geniegirl, I'm SO glad you asked this question! I had no idea that you couldn't drive around looking at the sites. I guess I'll rent a golf cart at least one day just to have a "look/see" around FW. :)

Actually, you probably "could" take a slow drive around one day to look at sites IF you are staying at Ft. Wilderness. (They don't let cars in if you are not a guest at the Fort). What they mean by no vehicle traffic at the Fort is there is no place to park except at your site and at overflow. You can't drive over to the comfort station and park there to use the facilities, You can't drive up to Trails End/Hoop De Doo to go eat or drive up to the marina to rent a boat. You can't drive over to the Bike Barn and park to rent a boat or to the Campfire and Movie. There is 15 minute parking at Meadows to pick up purchases, but that really is it.

If you could drive all over FW I don't thank it would feel as relaxed as it dose there. I don't than people would talk to people as much. Because as soon as you got off the boat you would get in your truck close the doors and not hear anyone and go to your site. I am glad it is set up the way it is.:thumbsup2

I agree!! I would not feel as safe as I do If anyone could just drive anywhere at the fort! Not to mention how much risk there would be for Passanger vehicle vs. golf cart accidents! I have already been tailgated all the way from loop 300 to the pool.. even after I attempted to pull over and let them go by and they refused! :drive:

Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that there are hundreds of sites at the Ft....if everyone looped in actual automobiles....there would be gridlock traffic everywhere, all the time...especially in the mornings when everyone would be driving their cars to the bus stops to get to the parks early!!! Thank god they have buses and restrictions on vehicle traffic....wouldn't seem much like camping if it were filled with exhaust fumes and horn blowing all the time!!!!"Ft Wilderness campers convicted of road rage, sentenced to 6 months hard time of continuous rides in Its A Small World".....Id rather be on death row in a halter top!!!
