We are considering driving to Disney. I realize there are many things that factor into total cost but I was wondering if anyone could help me with estimates.
Our car currently costs us about 60.00 per tank. We would be leaving from Canada right near the Peace Bridge.
Any ideas (again I know it can vary) on how much it would be in gas approximately and how long it would take?
I can factor in breaks, food and hotel stop once I get an approximate on gas and time alone.
Thank you:goodvibes

We've driven down three times and from the Peace Bridge it's about 19 hours of travel time including stops (21 hours from where we are in Orangeville). We make the drive in two days with an overnight stop some where around Charlotte, NC. We drive a Dodge Grand Caravan and spent around $240 USD on gas. We drove down 77/79 and back on 75.

Thank you.
Now I know it would be a pretty substantial savings. All I need to do now is factor in how much my sanity is worth by driving that long with a very active 4 yr old boy:lmao:

DVD player should occupy your son.

I love driving down to Disney. With that out of the way, have you looked at flights out of Buffalo?

Driving will cost between $600-$700 once you tally up gas, meals, hotels etc.

Depending how many of you there are, flying may be more economical. Especially if you're staying on site, use Magical Express and are just planning to go to the parks and Downtown Disney.

I need a good hotel/safe place to stay on the way down to disney. we will be stopping around charlotte but have no idea where to stay. I found a hampton inn near the I77 but its 130USD and my DH wants to spend less. Any idea?

thanks

Statesville is an hour North of Charlottte you could try there or Rock Hill, SC about 30 minutes south of Charlotte.

Rates seem to be higher near Urban areas.

Although I'm sure someone will come up with a recommendation.
You could also post your search for a place to stay over in the transportation board.

We never make ressies for hotels enroute. We stop at the Vistor's Centre, which is usually right around the state border, and pick up a coupon book. All the states have them and they offer very good rates on motels throughout the state.

We stayed at the Best Western in Statesville, free continental breakfast.

Clean, good rooms, free parking. I don't think it had a pool.

We paid with airmiles because I booked on short notice. We can get Best Western cards with your airmiles, and pay that way if you have time for the cards to arrive in the mail.

I believe it would have been around $70.00 US for the night if we paid.

Statesville is cheaper then Mooresville.

WE drove last summer and the total cost for us was $570. We drive a Chev Venture departing from Oakville and drove the 77/79 route.

We left home at 3:30am and had packed breakfast and lunch. We stopped at a restaurant for dinner (in hindsight we would have just gotten fast food to save time and money). We stopped for the night about 1 hour north of Savannah at around 9:30pm. The hotel included breakfast and we left there around 8:30am. Arrived at POFQ around 2pm.

Driving only saves money if you have 4 or more people in the vehicle. The flights out of Buffalo or any US airport are really cheap. For a family of 3 you can fly for the same amount or less than the cost to drive. Not to mention the savings on time. We did it last year just to try it out. Once in a blue moon we will take a road trip. Apparently, last August there was a blue moon.;)

Just for example....we travelled August 24 - Sept 3....if we had flown we could have had 4 tickets on Southwest for $670 roundtrip including taxes.

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Rock Hill, SC last November. Nice and clean with a pool (that we never even looked at) It's right next door to The Outback Steakhouse.
