I'll be staying at Shades of Green next month but I'm planning to rent a car so I don't have to rely on the buses. I will probably walk to the Poly and take the ferry to MK. For the other parks that open earlier than the posted opening time how early can I get in the parking lot?

You could walk to the Grand Floridian and continue walking to the MK gates from there.

You can queue up about an hour before the official opening time and they start letting cars through 10-15 minutes later.

Did you mean to say you would take a ferry from the TTC? There are small boats that run from the monorail resorts but the ferry leaves from the TTC.

Yes.
There is a Shuttle Boat from MK to Grand Floridian, then the Poly, and then back to MK.
Shuttle Boat Route: MK>GF>Poly>MK>Repeat.

Problem can be if there are lots of guests waiting.
Boats can't accept a lot of guests.

During times when the Poly's Monorail Station is down, there will also be buses running between the Poly and MK gates.

I thought they were running the larger "MK boats" (former AK River Cruise boats) instead of the Motor Launches during the pandemic. Has that changed?

Could very well be.

The GF-Poly-MK route is still mostly being handled by the old AK boats, although on rarer occasion I have seen a regular resort launch boat on that route. But it’s mostly those repurposed AK boats.
