I have a newly three and a half year old who has been potty trained sinse the beginning of February. We will be driving to Orlando from brownsville tx. How often should we stop for potty breaks?

We drove from WI last fall and kind of let our 3 year old tell us when she needed to stop. Most stops were quicky ones for her and on average were about every 2 hours, give or take. If the kids were napping, we just kept on driving. Usually after meal stops we had to stop again about an hour later because she had something to drink. It will all depend on how well your child can hold their liquids.

It really depends on your child. But, I would strongly suggest putting a potty in the car. Last year my dd got either a stomach bug or ate something that didn't agree with her and we were stopped in construction in virginia with not even a shoulder to pull off on. Luckily I had thrown the potty in at the last minute. I line mine with a plastic bag and then open up a disposable diaper (kind of turn it inside out) and stick it in the bottom. Little to no mess and it can be a lifesaver with little ones that "have to go NOW".

Thanks, I was figuring about every three hours or when she tells us.

bartleby1, that's a great idea taking the potty chair with us. Thank god I haven't got rid of it yet!! I don't know I didn't think about it. We use to cart it all around town, because my dd wouldn't use the public restrooms.

Thanks for reminding me of that
