Driving a Honda with 330,000km to Florida?

Ok, we are driving to Florida for March break and are debating taking our Odyssey with 330,000 km on it (that has made the trip many times) or our Chevy Avalanche. The dilemma is that there are 5 of us going down and 6coming back. Although the Avalanche has less km's, obviously the ride back will not be as roomy as in our minivan! Our Odyssey is still in good shape, no major problems and is kept up on maintenance etc. Definitely better for driving with 3 kids and my elderly mother. The "guys" at the Honda dealer where we get our routine maintenance done think there should be no problem getting 400,000 km's out of our Honda. I am still nervous, since I am the one driving down with my Mom and kids (Hubby is flying down and driving back with us).

What do you think?:confused3

No mention of how long the trip is for you :confused3 so it would entirely depend on whether or not it's a 1 day trip or a 3 day trip.

For me I want to make sure I'm gonna get there - 330K on an older car would have me biting my nails the entire drive down - regardless of what the mechanic said (unless he wants to come along for the trip when the van breaks down).

We've got a 2001 Odyssey. We would not hesitate to use it for another run down to the Magic Kingdom.

It is a Honda after all! (No matter what GM says)

I would never trust any car with 330k for that distance...

I totally agree. What will you do if you break down? I would imagine that would totally blow your vacation.

My DH works in the auto biz and has for 20 years. I agree that Hondas are fantastic quality cars but for the techs to say you can go to 400K is not something that they can say with certainty.

Well, she made it! Drove like a champ through all those tornado warnings!:goodvibes

Got here a little too late:goodvibes I was going to say..... That you know your car best.

Glad you made it safe and sound.

Wow! Awesome!

My dad has a Honda Civic with over 300 miles on it (not kms) and he swears by that thing. I'd have taken the Odyssey too.

Glad you made it - we were told by two different mechanics at 2 different garages our van would not make it there - we made it there and back. A little hickup after running into some stop and go traffic through Atlanta but it all turned out great - got to spend more time with the ones we love and the next morning there was no traffic and we had no more issues. Yes, a little more stressful but bad things can happen to brand new cars too.

And I wanted to add - why on earth did your dh get to fly and you drive? I would have made him suffer right along with me and the kids!

Dh is a teacher, he couldn't take the extra 2 days off. Believe me, I wanted him with us too and after his little flying adventure, I think he would have rather been with us too!

Oh well done to your Honda. Give it some nice expensive oil and hug it tight :)

How far do you live from Disney world? We dont have a car, so I have no idea how far it is for a 3 day trip.

Takes about 21 hours from Ontario. I took as extra day to spend on the beach before our cruise (didn't do Disney this year) but spent it in the rain:mad: Beautiful weather once we sailed!
