Driving 75 south to wdw

We will be driving down for the first time rather than flying.
Can anyone recommend a safe cheap hotel about 3 hrs north of wdw?
We are driving to save $ so I'm hoping to find a reasonable place to crash for the night that is around the $60 or less mark. Just a place to sleep but not gross.

Never done that drive before, but it looks like Lake City, Fl is where you want to look. Go to Google and search for "hotels near Lake City, FL" to get a list of likely prospects and see them on a map.

I was also going to suggest Lake City. Gainesville also has several nice hotels right off I75 but I'm not sure of the cost.

We stopped in Lake City one year. We did Gainesville the next year. I much preferred the Gainesville area over Lake City. We stayed at a Hampton Inn for $79. I didn't think that was too bad. We also had a free hot breakfast.

Depending on when you travel you might want to see if anything big is going on at the University of Florida, hotel rooms go quickly when there's an event.
It doesn't look like you're going during football season though, you should be ok.

Lake City is 3 hours north of Disney while Gainesville is 2 hours north.
Both have the major name brand hotel chains there.
